TMI - Constipation and BM

So this may be a very stupid question, but I'm asking anyway. Not much is going on in here. So PG constipation sucks! I have so much trouble having a BM. I feel like I am pushing too hard that I may hurt the baby (or pop it out!!!). Is this the stupidest thing you have every heard?? I have only had one doctor visit so far, so I haven't been able to ask him all my silly questions. So I'm coming to you ladies. Please don't laugh Smile

  • Definitely not laughing at you, it happens to all of us!  Check your prenate and see if it has a stool softener in it, a lot of them do, if not start taking some docusate it's totally safe.  If that's not enough, increase your fiber and water intake.  The fiber supplements are safe to use too, just be sure your getting enough liquid with them.  Hope it helps!!

  • If it gets really bad you can take Phillips Milk of magnesia as well, My Doc said not all the time but in Dire cases to take it, you can get sick if you get really backed up.

    MoM is not a stimulant laxative, and it works by drawing water into your bowels so it will not cause cramping.  I have used it a few times and it has been a god send.  Just make sure to drink a huge glass of water afterwards otherwise it may make you nauseous

  • I have one word for you.........PRUNES!

    I eat 4 in the morning and 4 at night and it keeps me going comfortably. Stay really hydrated as well. Be proactive because it only gets worse the further along you get. Hemroids are a real problem for some women with prolonged constipation or who have to push too hard.

  • I totally understand your pain!  Aside from bigger boobs my only other symptom so far has been constipation.  It's miserable!

    For awhile I was drinking 2 liters of water, a handful of prunes, and Metamucil every day, which worked for awhile.  I think my body got used to that and it stopped working.  After a couple of extremely painful days I added fresh squeezed lemon to my water, Colace, and coconut water to my routine.  I'm not sure which or the combo is giving me relief but it's working. Good luck!
