This is ridiculous! I am very frustrated! I took Logan to the pedi yesterday and he said Logan should be speaking more but that he is not concerned because 3 languages are a lot to process. He referred me to the Dan Marino Center of the Miami Children's Hospital in Weston for an evaluation and I called yesterday and set up an appt for April 5th. I called back today to see if they could call me if there are any cancellations and they said I do not have an appt because they had scheduled me yesterday for the wrong thing. It turns out that the earliest available appt with a Spanish speaking therapist is in JUNE!!! Are you serious??? If DS does have a delay, then waiting until he is 2 is going to make it much worse!
I called the pedi again and they referred me to Cora Rehab Center and their main therapist is on Maternity leave so her replacement doesn't speak Spanish! I mean, jeez! This is South Florida not Kansas! how hard is it to find a therapist that speaks Spanish and that is available this month or the next!
I finally called Early steps and they referred me to the school board so they took my info and said that somebody from t=early intervention is going to call me within 10 days (which probably means in 10 days!) so we can set up an appt to see if he could be admitted to their program!
Anybody knows a good therapist out there? We speak to DS in Spanish, Hebrew, English and Sign language but he mostly speaks Spanish.
Re: I need rec for a good bilingual/trilingual speech therapist
Thanks for your kind words Rachel!
I am sooo frustrated!

All of the friend I have who got help with their children's speech delays did so through Early Steps. They are a FREE program which is why they are so busy and will take 10 days to call you back. Its not that long to wait, imho. Not much is going to change in 10 days.
Also, most doctors I know recommend that you wait until 2 anyway before evaluation because the age of 2 brings on a lot of changes...so I would probably keep that appt with the DMC.
BREATHE!!!!! If there is a delay, you caught it early. Early steps is a GREAT place to start.

The Dan Marino Center belongs to the Miami Children's hospital and the earliest appt available is for June.

I called Early Steps and they said that somebody is going to call me back within 10 days. I just hope that when they call me back I won't have to wait until June to see somebody!
The only place that has an appt available this month doesn't take Vista Insurance.
I called, Vista and they gave me the phone number of 2 places. I'm going to call them now to see what they say. I think I have already called more than 10 places!
That stinks! I don't have any referrals but I know how frustrating it is. I remember when Nadia had to see a specialist for her eyes at Bascom Palmer and the first appt they gave me was 4 months off. I called and cried to pretty much anyone who would listen to me and they were able to sqeeze me in after 2 months. It's so frustrating to get appts. I'm crossing my figers something opens up sooner or you find someone else.
A friend of mine took her son to the Memorial Hospital West Rehab Center:

The therapist he saw is bilingual, and her name is Pearl Perdeck.
Thanks girls!
Since pretty much every place I have called has a waiting list I am going to wait for the call back from early steps. Hopefully it won't take as long!
