My SIL suggested I register for an Ergo over a Bjorn - she thinks they are more comfortable. I haven't tried any in-person yet, but just wondering what you'd recommend. I want something both me and DH can use comfortably - I'm 5'2". Thanks!
I was torn about this two and decided to go with the Bjorn because:
1. the baby can face out when bigger 2. skin to skin contact
If I really like the Bjorn I"ll probably switch to an Ergo later on. It's nice that you can take it off and hand off to DH without taking LO out of the carrier.
Get the Ergo. They're definitely more comfortable because the distribute the weight ergonomically, rather than just on your shoulders/back. They're also better for baby's hip development - there can be issues with the carriers like the Bjorn which basically suspend baby from the crotch, rather than supporting their butt & back.

I've heard the exact same things. If you really want one that also faces out, try the Beco.

I personally used a Moby wrap with my DD, and will for DS during the very early stages. After a few months I plan to switch to the Ergo based on recommendations from the Mom's group I belong to. Every recommendation that I have heard is for the Ergo over the Bjorn for comfort.
1>Bjorn so great for me when my son was first born through 3 months. After my back was killing me. couldn't use it for long walks etc.
2>Ergo, AWESOME for when he was a bit bigger, the weight distrubtion made it so comfortable for me to hold him for long periods of time and well past his first year. You can use it in 3 different positions, the front, the hip and as a backpack (for when they are a bit older this is great).

If you have to pick just one get the Ergo.
This. If you are only deciding between those two options and have to choose just one, definitely go Ergo. You will get much more use out of it.
Definitely the Ergo. It will last you MUCH longer than the Bjorn. DD got too heavy at around 14lbs in the Bjorn for me but we were carrying her around in our Ergo at 2+ years old without a problem! Any carrier with a waist strap is going to make such a huge difference in comfort for you.
I do agree it's a bummer they can't face out in the ergo, but before long they will be going on your back and will get good views that way. Plus they say it can be too much stimulation on little ones to not give them an option to NOT see everything.
For the few extra dollars, definitely go for the Ergo.
The Ergo Carrier is by far superior to the bjorn. The Bjorn starts to get uncomfortable and painful in your upper back once your baby is getting close to 20lbs. The Ergo has a waist band like you see on hiking back packs so the weight is distributed to your legs and not your back. Much more comfortable. PLUS the bjorn carries the baby by just his/her crotch so it's not very comfortable for them. Ergo carries by the bottom and thighs so they are more comfortable.
If the Ergo is too bulky for you since you are smaller framed, you might want to try the moby wrap which is also really comfortable.

I had both, here's my perspective.
