2nd Trimester

since most of you are having summer babies-do you get this?

whenever i tell anyone that i am due in the begining of August i get the "oh you are going to be miserable to be that big durring the heat! what are you going to do?"

Ummm...this is NYC not Florida. do they really expect me to say OMG i had NO IDEA that it was hot in the summer-thank you for that wonderful advise now excuse me while i make an appt with the clinc so i can start over and have a winter baby Indifferent

#1 The heat doesnt come in until the middle/end of august

#2 H and i planned to have a summer baby so we can have out door birthday parties and not have a ton of kids running around my house

#3 STFU and GFY

it really freaking annoys me. plus this is why i have a ton of maxi dresses and ACs in my house.

  • haha I agree with this! I live in canada and people say the same thing, I have to remind them this is canada. 70% of year is winter, and the rest is something very similar. :P Plus they act like AC and mini fans have never been invented

  • I live in Italy.. It gets waaay hot here (in my opinion since I'm from Michigan) starting about May. I'm due June. So not looking forward to the heat since we don't have ac. But people know I know all this and haven't said anything stupid about it yet.
  • totally!!! all I wanna say is "Hellooooooo.... AC!!!!!"

    LOL

PLus, for me... I love the hot weather, and I'm tiny, and have really not gained much weight yet *fingerscrossed* so I don't think it'll be that bad!

I think it'll be great!! I'm in Cali... hot hot hot!! But great great great at the same time! !  :D

  • my baby, due in July, will actually be a winter baby since we are in Australia

EVERYONE says to me ohhh it'll be cold to have a winter baby - um yea I'm from MN where it ACTUALLY gets cold, 50/60 degrees, which is usually the average low for 'winter' here is not cold! I think it will be kind of nice!

  • haha thanks, its the first thing I thought of when I saw the sono :P I don't even know if its a boy yet! for all I know, its a Miss. peanut

  • I live in Phoenix. I'm miserable every summer, but I cope by hanging out in the pool or by staying indoors! I'm sure I'll have no problems this summer :)
  • Im due at the end of August and I am DREADING the heat. I am fair and burn easy in the sun. Being at my biggest durring peak summer heat is not my idea of fun.
  • I'm due at the beginning of Sept, so I will really be at the end when it's hot as Hell. I'm currently in Korea and the summer weather here is hot and very humid. I usually love the heat of summer, but I'm not so sure about this year! (We only have A/C in the living room. I see my couch and I becoming very good friends...)

  • I'm so sick of this comment.  I'm a teacher, so I'm off during the summer and don't really have to go anywhere.  I just laugh and say that I'll hang out naked in my air conditioned house.  The image of my naked usually shuts them upWink
  • I live in Orlando, Florida and last time I had a July 4th baby. Honestly, being pregnant in the summer wasn't an issue at all. Floridians handle summer like northerners handle winter - we stay inside. :) It's not like I'm going to go spend the day in the theme parks!
    Hawaii
  • Haha ... I'm getting kinda the opposite.  I'm due in June.  Everyone has been commenting on how lucky I am to be due in June because I'm going to beat the heat that comes later in the summer .... because (as we all know) it gets hot and uncomfortable in the summer.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image
  • I hate hearing this! I am due the beginning of July and will be living in Nebraska where it can be really humid or mild in the summer. Last summer was a mild one so I am just hoping it's like that again. I hate when people try to tell you how you're going to feel! Big pet peeve.

  • honestly, I am terrified of how miserable I will feel. I hate Florida summers and being pregnant with a 2 and 4 year old at home is not going to be fun!

  • I'm glad that it'll be nice out when baby gets here (end of July) so that we could sit outside in the evenings, go for walks, and not have to bundle up like crazy to go for a walk.
  • I get it a LOT. I don't really let it bother me though. People have been having babies for millions of years. I'll survive. I'm actually really happy to be having a July baby. My son was born in May and it was so nice to be able to enjoy being outside with him when he was a newborn.

Also, I'd much rather deliver in the summer than worry about driving to the hospital in the winter.

  • I'm also from Florida.  I mean, yeah, the heat sucks, but you know what, I can also sit my lazy a$$ on the beach all day or lounge in the pool if it gets too hot for me.  One of the perks of living in this state.  Not to mention taking a boat ride on the gulf is always fun & the wind is very cooling.

And, oh darn.  I have to wear cute maternity dresses and flip flops all summer.  What a bummer.

  • I was due July 31st with DS and I live in NJ.  I ended up delivering him 2 weeks early on July 18th, but it was AWFUL to be 9 months PG in the summer.  There's a reason why people say that.

    Just sayin'.

Now, that being said, it's not like you can't do it, or something.  Although the heat mixed with the agony of carrying around a full term baby at anytime does not make for a happy mama... it's totally worth it.  As a summer baby myself, and having a summer baby, I must say that it's the best =)

PS- Summer is so much better then winter just b/c you can get out of your house on maternity leave and go for walks as well. ;)

  • I love being pregnant in the summer! Its HOT here in GA most of the year so im pretty well used to the heat. But to stay cool, I usually just go swimming!! And I cant wait til time to JUMP IN!!
  • I get it a lot but it doesn't bother me because I know it's true!  This baby was a bit of an "oops"...we were going to start trying in January so we would have an October baby.  I thought ahead and did not want to be 9 mos pregnant in the hot TX sun!
  • I'm due June 21st so not having these comments but I've had tons of comments saying "oh you must be happy you wont be pregnant during the hot summer" so I can just imagine how many people are telling you this. I dont know what they expect you to say when they tell you this anyways? lol so what's the point of them making a comment like that?!
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I get the same thing.  Pretty sure I've lived in Texas my whole life- I know how hot the summers are, thanks though.  I was born in August and my mom is still alive!
  • Since I'm due in mid-July, most people have commented that I won't facing the worst of the heat....I'm sure those are the same people that are making comments about August being bad.

Stupid people and their stupid comments. It's hot, yes, but plenty of people of babies have summer babies. Also a plus is that you get to go outside with your baby during maternity leave instead of being cooped up inside. One lady made this comment.

  • Yup. I'm due at the end of July and I get those comments all the time. I live in Chicago. I LIVE for the summer. I can't wait for it to be warm. We suffer through our winters and the only thing that keeps us going is the summer weather. So, I am really happy to be due in the summer. I will actually be able to go outside and walk the baby around and go to parks and all that good stuff. Plus being due in the winter would be much worse here in Chicago.
  • I actually said that when we found out I was pregnant, "holy crap, July?! I'll be huge and uncomfortable!"  But then I realized, uh, duh... tons of chicks have babies in the summer, I think I'll survive.

So now it drives me nuts when other people talk about it like it's such a big deal. :)

  • There are comments like that for EVERY season. Don't let it get to you. You choose how you respond. Just smile and nod.
  • People tell me that all the time as well.  I've been pregnant in the summer (DS was born in October) and it really wasn't a big deal.

I like being pregnant in the summer better.  You get to wear skirts, tank tops, and flip flops instead of pants, sweaters, and boots.  It's so much more comfortable!

  • I get a lot of "Oh you are so lucky to be having your baby in June so you dont' have to deal with being huge in the summer."  It doesn't really bother me.  I am just happy I got pregnant when I did without problems, and people are entitled to their opinions.

  • I can't stand it either. I work in AC and my home has AC. I know I'll survive. Maybe my daily walks will be hot but I can always do them in the morning. I don't see it being such a big deal.
  • I am due in June and live in Florida so I get this all the time! It is kind of annoying but for me atleast it is true. My doctor even said that his wife had both their kids in the summer and she was miserable then gave us some tips to stay cool! Lol!

This.  Plus all my family is from SE Georgia where it is MUCH hotter than it is here.  So I get that comment a lot too "Good thing you moved North.  It'll just be getting warm there whereas here it'll be 90 every day with humidity in the swamp"  Honestly I'd rather be pregnant and uncomfortable/hot than worry about falling on the ice every day.  Even before I had any bump at all I was terrified about falling on the ice in the parking lots. I can't imagine trying to navigate it at 8/9 months.

This is me and I agree!

I am also excited that I will be able to drink beer at Cubs games for most of the season!!

  • Well, I'm due the end of June so they all say "you'll just miss the heat." And I want to say "Dude, I have A/C. I would just sit inside all the time blasting it." Why do they think I would let myself be uncomfortable just because of heat?

  • haha - i get this ALL the time! it was the 1st thing my mom said when I told her, my grandma, my aunts... etc... I like to remind them that I live in upstate NY where the high in the summer is 70 deg. more often than not!

Honestly, I'm excited to have a summer baby - I'll get to go out for walks and outings, whereas if I were having a winter baby, it'd be the middle of flu season & I'd be less apt to get out of the house! being stuck in the house for 4-5 months of snow every day? NO THANK YOU!

So for now, I say bring on the summer. it's nothing a little AC can't cure. maybe we'll all feel differently when the heat rolls in? (not likely!!!)

  • While I don't like the heat at all- it is annoying for every person to say "Just wait until your big and miserable". I can't help it that God blessed me with a bundle of joy in August. I'm happy to just be pregnant! On the flip side- I don't have to worry about snow. My girlfriend ended up having her baby at home because there was a horrible snow storm in March here and the paramedics couldn't reach her in time...I won't have that problem :)
  • Honestly I don't even bother caring about comments like that. THis is my 3rd summer baby. My previous two were both due July 26 but 2 years apart. One was born in July the other in August... It's always been find. I live in the midwest. It gets reasonably hot here in late summer but I would much rather be hugely pregnant in the summer than in the icy dead of winter.

  • I cant even count how many times this has been said to me.  Every time I hear it I honestly want to strangle someone (yes, it annoys me that much, lol).  Why is it that for everything else...."Everyones pregnancies are different" but for this one subject EVERYONE will suffer in the summer, no matter what.

Newsflash - I LOVE the heat.  I am always freezing.  It can be 75 degrees and I will have a sweatshirt on!  I'm hoping being pregnant for the summer months will even things out a bit for me  :o)
