Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Nauseous after breastfeeding?

The past several days I have been feeling really nauseous and it seems to be worse during and after I am nursing.  It has been so bad that I have barely eaten anything since Monday.  My baby is 1 week old and I nurse every 2-3 hours.

I am calling my dr. but was wondering if anyone has experienced this and knows if there is a link between nursing and nausea?

  • you need even more "extra" calories than when you were pregnant, so you could be dizzy or whatever because you need more food and water??  GL!

  • Could be your lack of food...

I lost my appetite for a whole month after having DD.  If I was hungry then it couldn't be anything with a lot of flavor or salt.  I ended up having to drink Ensure to try to keep up the calories since I was breastfeeding.  As hard as it was to get food down, you need to eat something.  An empty stomach can bring on nausea.

  • Totally - my mom said it was in-part due to the hormone drain.  "Like pulling the drain stopper on a bathtub," she said.
