Awake but not crying

Last night, Jack was sleeping in his crib.  I went to check on him and his eyes were open but he wasn't crying.  Is this normal?  I didn't pick him up.  I just him go back to sleep, which he did.

I guess I thought he would cry if he was awake.  He was swaddled so maybe he thought he was being held.

Brandon does this and it does kind of freak me out but I only guess that it's normal, it's as if he is taking in his surroundings.

Do you cry when you're awake all the time?  Why would a baby cry whenever he was awake?

He's just 'awake'.  Its fine.
