Is this typical for a "smoking" hotel room?

I am in the market, not a smoking room, but HoJo's (I am searching via hotels.com) says that have to be over 12 to stay in a smoking room.   Not sure if its a LA thing or typical.  I guess it sucks if you are a smoker? Good things for kids.
