We've had the same alarm company for 4 yrs now, and have been happy w/ their service. Monitronics.
As for shutters, sorry, I like you too much to recommend the company I used... and the sad thing is it is family! DOH.
Thanks for the rec! I totally understand you on the family/house projects issue. We had a member of DH's family doing some work on the house. He did a good job and charged us pretty low. But when we started asking him to do other projects, he started quoting us really high and we had to let him go and find somebody else. It's sad how family will take advantage, too.
When we bought the house, he quoted us one price. We needed an estimate to determine if we would go with impact windows or not (all windows had to be replaced regardless). With the quote he gave us, it was most economical to go with reg windows / shutter combo. By the time we cam back to actually install the shutters, the price miraculously increased by over $2K! Yup.
With just a bit more, we could have had impact windows... and had the added security year round! I am still super bitter about this. This is the one regret I have w/ my house. : (

That's terrible! We were considering impact windows because the previous owners replaced most of the windows, but I guess they ran out of money because there are 3 old windows but they're in very inconspicuous places. The French doors were also pretty new. So, we decided to just change the front door to a hurricane-grade door and install shutters. But, this is one of those things that I'm sure in the future we would've splurged on the impact windows.

Shutters: Fl Storm 954-785-0741
Movers: American Eagle 954-571-7821
We did a lot of research and price comparisons on both of these and were very happy with both.
My alarm company is Ademco - the alarm system was already here when we moved in, we just upgraded it, but they've been good so far.
Yes, dealing w/ family is the pits.
