I like the sound of it but since I'll be 36 in a couple weeks I'm not sure about the hormones. I know that birth control pills are not recommended but not sure if Mirena is the same.
Well, I wasn't 35 when I got it, but I am now and still have it. And my OB knew how old I was and said that I could get another one in 5 years if I wanted, so I would think so, but ask your OBGYN.
I didn't know birth control pills weren't safe after 35. Where did you get that info? Do you have a link to specs I Could read?
Hmmm... I thought it was just common knowlege... let me see what I can find. You definitely can't smoke and be over 35 on them but I thought it wasn't a good idea even if you don't smoke.
Here is the link to a government site. It seems like it just puts you at a higher risk of side effects ( I believe specifically clotting issues but it doesn't say that in this link). https://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/birth-control-methods.cfm#h
I think most women are fine but I don't want to take a chance if their is any risk to it.
So far though I'm leaning towards Mirena. It must be ok because I assume most women have it replaced well beyond 35.
According to this the pill is fine to use into your 50s if you don't have certain risk factors. It specifically mentions the Mirena if you're not a good candidate for the pill.

That is probaby why they say it's worse if you smoke and are over thirty. I'm not taking any chance. Even though it is rare for a woman to have heart problems before 50 it happens. My own husband had a heart attack at the age of 28. I'll stick to other options.
