TTC after 35

spotting ?

Hi all, my IUI cycle was cancelled last week, too many follies. It was around CD10 that it was officially cancelled. This weekend and the past few days I have had some brown spotting, really light, but unusual for me. I'd say it was from like CD 15-18. Any idea what caused it? Ovulation? (seems like that would be late since I had a 18 mm follie and a crop of smaller ones on CD8, doesn't it seem like I would have ovulated earlier?) Or do you think it's just hormonal changes from all the drugs and all the follies the first week of the cycle? It's not a big deal, I'm more curious than anything.

And we have abstained for the past week... went back and forth should we or shouldn't we after the IUI was cancelled, probably should have just done it because the odds were SO low of HOM at my age but in the end despite the risk being so low but I just kind of freaked out about the idea of getting pregnant with quads or quints, would have posed decisions I just don't think I could have handled.

Re: spotting ?

  • since you had so many follicles you probably had fairly high levels of estrogen and (after ovulation) progesterone.  When those levels fluctuate dramatically it can cause spotting

  • I don't know about the spotting, but I think you were wise to follow you doctor's orders and abstain.  There's only room in this world for 1 Kate Gosselin!

Thanks for the support... it was just so frustrating to throw a cycle out the window but in the grand scheme of things it's only a month. Frankly the main reason we did was that I am too concerned about what other people think and if I did get pregnant, didn't want to have to tell the RE we'd ignored his advice. haha. Also, as I told my DH, I didn't want to be nervous that I might be pregnant this month (knowing there was the slight possibility of HOM).

  • I have no help for you on the spotting, but just wanted to congratulate you for making the right choice for you and your DH.

DH and were advised to abstain on a monitored cycle because I had to have a german measels shot. I know how hard it is to obstain when you know there are follies about to pop!

I had spotting around ovulation this month and have notice several other posts about it - guessing its a possibility but would be hard to determine given all the other factors.  Hoping next month is better for you!
