irregular pap bc of vag birth?

Did anyone get an irregular pap at 6 wks pp? My OB said it's probably just from birth trauma and I just need to come back in a year. I've never heard of this and feel a little nervous.

I've had HPV before but several clean paps since it cleared up.

  • I had an abnormal pap at my 6 week appt. too. I have to go back for a colposcopy! Bleh. But I had cervical dysplasia a coupleof years ago so my pap were abnormal for a while. Before I got PG they were back to normal and now they're abnormal again.

  • sometimes the way the cervix closes after dilation exposes areas where dysplasia / HPV could have been but previously unavailable for sampling via a pap. Normally docs will do follow up and depending on the type of abnormal annd pt history a colpo may be indicated.

Just follow your physicians recommendations and show up for the extra paps.

That's the thing, she didn't recommend any extra paps. Just come back in a year.

A couple things.  Pregnancy can cause those abnormal cells & usually clear up on their own after you give birth b/c your hormones are normal again.

also, when they do a pap & it comes back abnormal they (usually) send it off again to test it to see if it's high risk.  If it's not high risk they will reccomend you do a follow up pap, (my Dr said 6 months)if it's high risk they usually do a colposcopy to see what's going on.

I had an abnormal pap during pg & she said since it wasn't high risk I would just have to do a pap 6 months PP.

this is the info my dr gave me. HTH!
