NPR: Skiing ... and unseasonably warm weather

If you ski often, when do that slopes close down for the season?  We're supposed to go skiing this weekend, but the weather is unseasonably warm here.  Supposed to be in the 60s the next two days and rain on and off for the next 4 days.  I called the ski resort today and the slopes are still open with a 42 inch base.  But, I can't imagine they'll still be open come weekend, nor that I will have fun skiing in the rain this weekend.

I'm kind of bummed b/c I was so hoping that it would be 40 and sunny this weekend ... perfect skiing weather for me.  LOL!

  • I don't ski often but live very close to a ski slope and they stay open for skiing until early April.  Be careful it will probably be icy.

That's what I was thinking.  I have no desire to go skiing in the rain and down a sloppy ice slope.

  • Our area resort is open typically until early May. It has been in the high 30's around here this week and they are about 100% open. Not sure where you're located.

  • We're lucky.  "Our" mountain stays open until June.  But it's high-altitude.  I'm counting on getting some days in after the baby's born.

How far is the resort from you?  They may experience slightly different weather patterns even though it's going to be warm and rainy where you are.  I'd keep checking.

  • The resort we go to closes the ski paths the last weekend of April.  H has gone in April before, and it is a little icy, but still pretty good.

3 hours north, but the 60 degrees and rain is their forecast, as well as ours.  Usually it's 10 degrees cooler up there.  I think we're still going to go b/c we can't get a full refund on our room, but I am going to see if they can refund our lift tix if we don't use them.
