High-Risk Pregnancy

Any Type 1 Diabetics Out There?

Are there any Type 1 (or juvenile) diabetics out there? I know gestational diabetes is really common on the high risk board, but I wanted to know if there are any other pre-pregnancy diabetics out there.

If so, how are you handling yourself? Is the increasing insulin resistance as frustrating to you as it is to me? Is your little one already measuring larger than the average despite all your attempts to keep your blood sugars normal?

I'd love to hear from you!

Re: Any Type 1 Diabetics Out There?

  • Hi! I think there are a few of us on here, but I'm pretty sure most don't check in too often anymore.  I'm not as far along as you and actually am still on lower than pre-preg. insulin levels.  Things are going well so far, but it's so hard not to constantly worry about any highs.  I've been having a lot of lows with rebound highs and I'm getting frustrated.  I know that it's going to get harder, so I'm doing best to keep my chin up.

I hope your pregnancy is going well.  Keep doing your best and remember that it will all be worth it.  Feel free to post here and we'll respond eventually. :)

  • It's just good to know someone is out there. Most of my diabetic friends are surprised we're even trying. So its just nice to know we're not alone.

I get frustrated a lot. The first trimester and most of the second were really easy as far as knowing when to adjust insulin rates. But the latter half of the second and now my third have been really difficult- I never know if its plateauing or that its just the foods. I'm so insulin resistant!

Like you said, its all worth it in the end! As long as God continues to grow our baby boy and that he's healthy, all this work is totally worth it. Chin up (as you said)! I hope yours gets smoother and you get to enjoy it more.

  • I am a type 1 diabetic and the insulin resistance is insane!i am only 12 weeks and it is just starting to get a little better but im sure itll change all the time.that was actually one of the first reasons i thought i was pregnant before i knew-it seemed like something was off because no matter how much insulin i took it was like it didnt work at all...I dont think ive had this much difficulty controlling my sugars since i first became diabetic-it seems like my body is completely unpredictable.I noticed in the past week i have been getting alot of lows,at least once a day usually more, and im beginning to need less insulin. It is frustrating though because i was always well controlled for the most part, but i have never had fastings at 85.Im getting more accustomed to it now and i know its worth it in the end but i go through so many test strips!Im glad to see there are others out there.
