Laz and I have decided it would be really nice to get a few days to ourselves and are thinking about a trip to Napa Valley this summer. If you've been, please share! I need recommendations for where to stay, places to dine and wineries to visit.
Thanks!
Re: Napa Valley???
I've been to Napa / Sonoma twice. I have a book you're welcome to borrow and tons of info.
You should try and stay in a B&B. There's a chain of B&Bs called the Four Sisters Inns that we stayed at the first time we went that I highly recommend!!!
The Girl and the Fig in downtown Sonoma is an awesome restaurant that I've been to twice.
We loved our trip to Napa. We were only there for 2 nights which was not enough!
We stayed in Yountville at the Yountville Inn. Our room was huge and although it was very nice, it didn't have much personality to it. The included breakfast was nice though because it was catered by Bouchon Bakery.
Our hotel was within walking distance to some great restaurants. We loved Redd and would like to do the tasting menu there next time.
For wineries, we like sparkling wine so we hit up Domaine Carneros, Domaine Chandon and Mumm. They were all nice but Chandon was my fave. We also went to Frank Family (great chardonnay), Sterling (amazing views) and Jessup Cellars. Jessup was probably our favorite stop of the entire trip.
Hope that helps and have a great time! We can't wait to go back.
We stayed in San Francisco when we went and we just did a day trip to Napa. It's about an hour drive. There's a ton to do in San Francisco and it's beautiful, I highly recommend you visiting the area if you have time.
Sorry I don't have recs for places in Napa, but hope you have an awesome time. I don't remember the names of the wineries we visited.
I went to San Francisco then did a day trip to both Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Both were so beautiful and tranquil. I can't remember the winery's we went to but a quick google search should pull up a ton.
You have to also make some time for SF. It is such a wonderful city. Thus far it has been my favorite US city we have been too.
We flew into San Francisco and were there for 2 or 3 days. Then we drove to Napa for 3 days. One of those days, we went to Sonoma. I would suggest visiting Sonoma as well. For me, it felt like Napa was more like Disney World. Maybe that's a bad example but it was much more commercial. Somona felt more "homey". Most of those vineyards were family owned and the tours and tastings were much cheaper.
All the vineyards both in Napa and Sonoma are pretty much right next to each other so you can start on one end and drive down, stopping at all the ones you like. The vineyards are close to one another in Napa. While in Sonoma they are like 5- 10 minutes apart. I remember it being hard to find a place for dinner. Most places closed really early and there were not that many options.
I liked some of the vineyards for the wine, others for the scenary. Off the top of my head, in Napa I liked Sterling (nice views), Mondavi, Beringer, Cakebread (love this wine! you need an appointment for this one), Castello di Amorosa (It came out on this season of the Bachelor). In Sonoma: Chateu st Jean (beautiful building and gardens), Clois du Bois, Arrowood, Benzinger (I really liked the tour), and . I know we went to more but I can't remember right now.
V.Sattui in Napa and Ledson in Sonoma have markets inside. We bought some bread, cheese, meats and had a picnic on the grounds for lunch.
Around this time last year, we spent 4 days in San Francisco and we fell in love with the city. From there we spent half a day in Sausalito a full day touring the wine country.
The wineries we visited were: Domaine Chandon, V. Sattui, Andretti, and Black Stallion. My favorite was V. Sattui because it had a very French country feel. Black Stallion was more modern and I loved their Cabernet Sauvignon. The Domaine Chandon was more corporate, but their sparkling wine was delicious!
