As with everything, babywearing requires being aware of where your child is and how safe his or her environment is. With pouches especially, make sure your child is not sitting with chin to chest and is not deep down in the carrier -- their face should be easily visible without having to pull the fabric aside. In a sling or pouch, don't bend over without having a hand on the baby. The fabric should be taunt. Pouches are notoriously difficult to size correctly, especially if you buy it while pregnant. If your pouch is too loose, don't risk wearing it.
Thanks Celyn, I knew you would have some great advice to go along with it. Unfortunately babywearing did not work with me and E. I am really hoping that with our next one I can wear them.
The child abuse specialist at my hospital has seen three SIDS deaths with the Ergo using the old infant insert. Remember, SIDS is not suffocation. it is re-breathing the baby's own carbon dioxide , so make sure the area around the nose is free. I constantly check on E when she is in the Ergo, even now.

Re: Warning about baby slings article
Thank you for posting this! I had no idea and my sister is expecting. I'm helping her build her registry.
And P.S. who's the tool that gave this post a one star rating?
