Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Jealous of these "non crying" babies

I get so jealous of mommies who say that their LO's really dont cry unless they are hungry.  My DD cries alot when she is awake and I get so frustrated.  She is changed, fed, not cold and I just dont know why she is crying.  She can be awake and we can be playing and happy and within one second, she is screaming.   I hate to see her cry.  Will this get better as she gets older??

Yes, it will get better. 6 weeks is supposedly the peak of infant fussiness.
  • My LO has his "off" days...but for the most part he has gotten better...hes almost a month old though so that may change

I dont think it is colic b/c its not 3-4 straight hours of crying, but is spurts of crying through the day.  When she sleeps, she is fine and nursing her can always make her stop, but I wish I could make her soothe her with another method than nursing....

Well, if nursing makes her stop, maybe she's just hungry?

My LO always gets upset when he's hungry, even if I try to anticipate his feeding and get to him before he cries. He just doesn't like being hungry - like his mama that way. :)

  • DS used to scream bloody murder at nappy changes and any other time when he was just generally disgruntled. I noticed around 8 or 9 weeks he wasn't doing it as much and now it's only when he is genuinely upset.

So I think it does get better.

i thought this too, but i can nurse her forever..today i let her go for over an hour and she was still grumpy...maybe growth spurt?

  • My LO is exactly the same way- including the nursing part. I am hopeful he grows out of it. Today has been particularly horrid :(

Yeah, sounds like it could be. She may be comfort sucking too which is part of the whole growth spurt thing. My LO's 6 wk growth spurt really dragged on, I think we are out of the woods now but I wouldn't put money on it!

  • I'm right there with you. My LO seems to need a lot of sleep and can usually make it awake for 1 .5-2 hrs before needing a nap. If we don't get him to sleep soon enough he goes into a crying fit and we need the blow dryer or vacuum to soothe him - no matter the time of day. It is getting better so I think they do grow out of it. My DS is also very sensitive to overstimulation and has enough after too much activity - crying and being grumpy is his way of letting us know. It's hard not to feel helpless and frustrated though.?

  • Maybe she is hungry. At 6 weeks DD was eating ALL the time, I had her attached to me all f-ing day.

Do you wear her? My baby just want's to be close all the time.

  • I totally feel the same way!  It seems all the babies I know in real life are the non crying ones.... my baby will be happy for like 20 minutes and then just get all grumpy and crying.  A lot of times for her it's because she needs to burp or is tired and can't figure out how to go to sleep!
  • Im on the wrong board, but OH MY YES! It will get better.  Jack still cries but the first two months he SCREAMED and for no apparent reason.  He was fine.  They say it peaks around 6 weeks, I think for Jack it was more like 8 weeks, but still...it will get better. Hang in there!

    Thank you for the reassurance!!!!

  • You're not alone! DD has always been an unusually fussy baby. While she still has her moments, it does slowly seem to be getting better.
  • I think it's funny how family is so eager to help out when LO is first born...but when we really need help is when LO is about 6 weeks old. That is the peak fussy time. Hang in there. It gets better

  • This is my lo too...she just seems more fussy than other babies but not colicky...exactly how a few stated it...happy for a bit then upset but always consolable.  I hope it does get better after 6 weeks:)
