Do you keep track of DC's shots?

DS had his 15 month appt yesterday I swore she told me he wouldn't need shots the last time. He ended up needing the MMR, pneumococcal and chicken pox...do you keep track of shots? I want to have better control over these and know what's going on so they don't screw up...they never give me a printout or anything though, do you write them down? Just curious what you do.

  • I have a vaccine record book that was given to us at the hospital after Ds was born.

  • yes.  absolutely.  i don't trust a nurse or dr. to never make a mistake, so i always verify with my own records.  i usually fill it out in the office the day she gets a vax.

  • I write them in DD's baby book. It has a specific page to record vacciantions.

  • I can access all of DD's health records online, so I usually peek at them before we go to see what she might be due for.

  • Of course.  The pedi gave us a card with her shot record that we have to bring to every appointment when shots are needed.  They have it on file and we have a copy too.  When they start school, you are supposed to submit a copy of the record to show that they have been immunized.
  • Our pedi's office gave us a vaccine record, it's just a little booklet, and they write it down in there, along with weight and height.  It tells you the date and what shots they got.

Same here.  I ask DS' pedi to mark the vaccines down at every visit.  I also always have a notebook with me where I've written down what I want to discuss at his appointments, and any questions I have and the answers.  I write the vaccines in there as well, so I have 2 records.

ETA:  DS' pedi usually ends the visit by telling us which vaccines are up next time, and I write those down too so I know what to expect.  We follow the standard AAP schedule, so if I forget or don't have my notebook handy I just peek at their online schedule.

This. I also write down her weight and height and head circumference and any other interesting things that happen.

  • I also have a vaccine record book from the hospital. I bring with me to every appointment and the nurse records what shots he received that day.

  • I have her yellow immunization card which she will need for school.  Her pedi also gave me a little booklet at her first appointment.  It has a page for each well baby visit with a space to record height, weight, and head circ. as well as which shots will be given at that appointment and possible reactions to look for.
