Has this happened to anyone????
I was put on BCP for this final cycle of IVF, did not do it the first try. Well, it apparently oversupressed me and they had to cancel this month before we even had a chance to start.
My FSH level was 5.9 on day 2 bloodwork and they were just waiting for my E2 to get to 20ish to start. So, I had additional bloodwork on day 3 and within 24 hours my FSH went to 15.9 the worst it has ever been. I had one level at 12, months ago but it generally hovers around 9-10.
I am wondering is this normal? The "office manager called to tell me the news" not a nurse, etc. She also threw in a mention of using donor eggs if I ever wanted to have a baby.....yeah real nice right?
I am meeting with the RE to go over things before this next cycle and ask some questions.
Is there anything you girls think I should be asking him, I want to be fully armed and ready with questions????
Re: Those who have done IVF questions???
BCPs are EVIL! they ruined 2 of my IVFs because of over-suppression. my ovaries never woke up after taking the pills. this is actually pretty common (I learned this after the fact.)
the office manager was way out of line mentioning DE. wow. that is not a conversation you have so matter-of-factly over the phone. rude! I'd talk to your RE about this.
it sounds like you would be a good candidate for EPP/MDL protocol. are you AMA? I swear by DHEA if you are.

Please excuse me butting in... but do I HAVE to do BCP's before my IVF? what's another option? I'm scared now. lol.
ps - I still have that huge box of DHEA for ya, Rock. lol.
My RE does not do BCP before starting IVF unless he thinks it's absolutely necessary. He said sometimes it does help, but sometimes it can just be a way to help RE clinics keep patients on a schedule that works for the doctor.
I skipped BCP and just started with Lupron toward the end of my cycle leading up to IVF and then stims started on cd2 or 3.
I did the antagonist protocol which is BCPs, but no lupron.
I also think them suggesting DE was out of line as well.
GL, I never had an issue with FSH, just wanted to say GL!

from my understanding, BCPs are all about control and scheduling.

Oversuppression happens all the time - I tend to oversuppress if I'm on BCPs for more than 3 weeks.
Also, my first RE told me after my first 2 failed IVFs that I need to have a serious think about donor eggs as I was running out of options. I ran out of his office in tears. Switching to a bigger/better clinic made all the difference for me!

To answer a couple of your questions, yeah, I have been told that I have low ovarian reserve. On the first cycle of IVF we did 150mg of follistim, 2 vials of menopur and then ganarelix to supress ovulation. I eneded up getting 3 follies, all 3 fert, we got one at 8 cells and the other two were 5/6 cell.
I transferred 2 and it was not successful. The RE said that they only consider anything over 8 cells viable for success.
So, this time they were going to be doing 350mg of follistim to start, along with the other 2 medications. It figures that I would have issues with the BCP, my body is highly sensative to anything.
I have not been taking the DHEA, which I might consider now. I have been taking royal jelly pills, wheatgrass, some green pills from trader joes, some herbs from the accupuncture lady. I also got a relaxation CD which was recommended on here, it focuses on infertility.
So, what exactly does DHEA do?
I don't think that's entirely true in all cases. For my first IVF I did long lupron with BCPs and was under supressed. It led to a couple of runaway follicles and a mess of a cycle (I triggered with 8 follies ranging from 12mm - 26mm). My next cycle (with a different clinic) I took a much heavier duty BCP and was properly supressed, which led to 12 follies all in the same size range. The BCPs were really important for my IVFs.
