Babies on the Brain

Random FB advertising question

Does anyone know how facebook does its targeted sidebar advertising? I'm not out on facebook, but all of my ads have to do with babies and pregnancy. It sort of creeps me out! I know it's based on something because ads in the past have always matched my interests, but they were usually things found in my profile.

Re: Random FB advertising question

  • I always have an ad on mine that is specifically for women who are 26.  It's weird.

  • I dunno but before I deleted FB, my ads were usually either for baby stuff or "pregnant? exploring your options? (WTF!?).  Same thing with Google ads.  Although Google ads sometimes have to do with other stuff I read about and search for often.
  • they base it off of your profile. Even if you have something hidden, if it's on there, the ad service can see it and target you. If you're engaged its wedding stuff, if you're married it's baby stuff, and if you keep it generic it's weight loss stuff.

I remember the wedding stuff when I was engaged, but the baby stuff just started in the past couple of months, and there's nothing on my profile about it, hidden or not. Apparently it was just good timing, and I'm overly sensitive to it, I guess. Weird.

  • I get the baby ads too and I don't have anything baby related on my fb. I always thought it had something to do with cookies.
