baseball, ballet, or swimming ?

DD has expressed interest in all 3.  We tried ballet once, and having taken it myself for a while I'm thinking it's not for her.

She's ... well....  still pretty "OH LOOK A CHICKEN!!" distractable and gets stuck counting things, or straightening things, or.. you get the idea.

She has a hell of a pitching arm.  We will force swim lessons on both kids at some point...

I dunno.  pros/cons ?   She's almost 4.

  • Swimming is also a non-choice in our family--she has to learn to swim.  She just finished up her first session of lessons and we'll take a little time off 'til the baby's born and just go to the pool and do some practice ourselves.

But because it's not a choice, I let her pick one other thing at a time to do.  She's really into ballet right now so that's what we're going with.

Might be really fun to do baseball in the spring though. . . would be nice to be outside.

  • I'd say T ball.  We put L in soccer this past fall, and he liked it, but was easily distracted.  Anytime he thought DH or I were looking at him, he'd ignore what his instructors were saying and start acting up.  Maybe with T-Ball, being outside will help her?

  • I say baseball...she run into a little bit of trouble if she's in the outfield with that "OH LOOK A CHICKEN" kind of thing but she wont need that much concentration like she would with ballet.  My dad has lots of stories of distracted kids in the outfield when he coached T-Ball and Little League lol

  • Oh look a chicken - LOL! This is typical of most 3-4 year olds...

Swimming is a no-brainer. Yes, they must take swimming. DS loves his swimming lessons, and has improved.

I am not a fan of ballet for 3 year olds, but since i don't have a girl that age, I may eat crow about that later when DD gets that age. I think they get more out of it a little later. Did she really like it? Or did you have to convince her to go sometimes?

Why not try t-ball? Again, she is going to get distracted, and you will watch games where all she is doing is picking the grass in the outfield, but see if it something she really wants to do.

Even though it's not real "ballet" at this point, the class has been awesome for my DD who is a bit gross motor delayed. . . the jumping really helps her.  She's also learning to pay attention, stand in line, learn a simple dance, etc.  She really loves it.

  • I'd say t-ball.  In fact, now that you mention it...I'm going to look into that for my 4 y/o this summer too:)
