Teaching them bad words...oops

So my son is now calling everything "stupid" (when I'm angry at something my DH has done or not done, I often mutter this under my breath). Apparently, DS has heard me say this. OOPS. What do I do now?? Embarrassed

Re: Teaching them bad words...oops

  • First, know that you aren't alone in hearing your "bad" words issue from your child's mouth.  When my DD was 15 months old, she stumbled down a curb and muttered, "Damm!t, damm!t, damm!t," in exactly the same tone I use -- oops!

Secondly, try to be mindful as much as you can, which will stop you from swearing/saying rude stuff in earshot of the kids about 97% of the time.

Thirdly, be honest about the other 3% of the times when they can hear you.  Say, "Geez, kiddo.  I'm sorry I said such an unkind/yucky word.  I was really frustrated.  It's not nice to say stuff like that, and I'm sorry.  I should say 'goofball' or 'sillyhead' instead.  'Stupid' isn't very nice."
