What do you think of young boys with earrings? My brother asked for and got his ear pierced at age 12. If DS is 12 and wants an earring(s) I think I will be OK with it.
I just think I would forbid stretching his lobes out while he's under my roof. (I have no idea if there is a name for those huge lobe-stretching earrings that the kids have these days. I'm so old.)
Re: s/o earrings
I'm going to go with the 'not while you're under my roof' for the boy's ear piercing. Same for girls navel piercings, second holes, and tattoos.
There's a name for those. They're plugs, and when you are stretching them you're 'guaging them out'. DH had plugs when I first met him. They were the size of pencil erasers. He's taken them out since and while he still has holes, they're just the size of normal piercings.

I wouldn't like it, but if he asked at around age 12, I'd let him, just like I would for a daughter.
And I'm with everyone else - a big HELL NO to tattoos, gauging, body piercings etc for either a boy or a girl before they are 18.
I knew there must be a name for them, thanks!
I know I will not allow tattoos before 18, but I don't really have a problem with piercings. I've had piercings and all the holes are closed now and not noticeable. I might allow a 16yo girl to get a naval piercing. I say that now, but who knows how I'll feel when kids are older.
My Mom took my brother without my Dad's knowledge & Dad didn't speak to either of them for weeks. I do think it needs to be a joint decision to allow or not allow whatever. If one is against it then it isn't allowed.
DH would never allow it. We've had discussions about hair, and he can't even stand the idea of letting his (phantom) son have longish hair/colored hair.
And hair is temporary. For me, if they really want it, let them do whatever they want with their hair. It can be cut off, grown out, redyed. If DD wanted to add pink stripes ::shrugs:: I would let her.
DH has also said that when our kids turn 18 and they want one, he'll buy their first tattoo. Again, I'm fine with it.
Mmmm...cake!
I'd rip it out the second I saw it.
Exactly what my dad did to my brother when he had it done at 16.
When I met DH he had both ears pierced, and his tongue pierced. He had also had his lebrea (sp?), and eyebrow done before I think.
I thought it was hot on him, but he hasn't had them in for years. However, young boys with studs in their ears, or even worse, just one ear? grosses me out.
This.
And This.
I'm not a fan but since DH's body is practically a pincushion I can only go so far with the arguments. Tattoo's I am adamant about not till they are 18. But an ear piercing, I may have to give in on but I'm not going for the plugs, gauging, nipples, tongues, navels etc.
They can imitate dad after they are 18 TYVM.
