Has anyone used them? My DS has one eye that looks red and has a little goo coming out. I don't know where it came from. DD doesn't have pink eye and I don't know anyone else who has had it recently. I just wondered if anyone has used the over the counter stuff. The pediatrician's office is at lunch right now, but I'll call as soon as they open up again.

Re: Over the counter pink eye meds?
Liam is 5!
I wouldn't do it. If it really is bacterial, you'll probably need the antibiotic stuff. Also, for someone as young as your DS the pedi might want to rule something else out--for DD1, "pink eye" was her only symptom for an ear infection.
For DD2, she had constant pink eye symptoms (it wasn't really pink eye) because of a clogged tear duct that she eventually had surgery for to open up (at 11 mos).
My vote is to wait until you can talk to the pedi.
I have worked in family practice and urgent care and never had a patient come in who was successful using the OTC meds. Relieves some of the symptoms but that is abou itt.
As for the other pp saying her kids doc just calls a script in...that is really not a good thing. Every doctor I've ever worked for would never ever just call a script in for the eye witout seeing it. My DD had what I thought was pink eye (she had had it before and it looked and acted the same) but when I took her in I found out it was not pink eye and was MUCH more serious. She was out of school for 2 weeks and could have no contact with anyone outside of the family. The optho even said the dog and cat could get it from her. When I notified the school they had to call it into the health department.
