Pregnant after a Loss

Who else tested +++ for the strep test?

Anyone else?  I just found out today my test was positive. What all does that mean? Just extra antibiotics at delivery right? Anything else? Anything else I need to know/be worried about?

I mean honestly I shouldn't be surprised, I have so much weird bacteria floating around in me/on me right now... geez.

Thanks!

Re: Who else tested +++ for the strep test?

  • Are you talking about beta strep?  I have it too found out when I had my now 13 yo DD.  Its no biggie really.  They give you antibiotics while you are in labor to protect the baby because it can cause the baby to get very sick.  I have delivered two babies and they have both been fine...

  • I'll find out today if I tested positive.  I'm hoping to be negative so I don't have to have an IV, but it's not really a big deal.

The only thing it really means is that you have to head to the hospital a little earlier (less laboring at home) and have 2 rounds of IV antibiotics, 4 hours apart, before the baby is born.

25% of all pregnant women have it, so you're not icky.  It's not an infection, just a type of bacteria that lives in your system.  There's just a small possibility that it can infect the baby, which is why they will put you on the antibiotics.

It's a good thing to have caught it - on antibiotics, the baby is super-safe!

  • I found out several years ago that I had it.  I'm assuming I'll just have to be on antibiotics.  My doctor told me it was no big deal and lots of women have it.

  • I did not test positive but what my dr told me on Wed was that you can be pos in one pregnancy and neg in the next.

*This is what happened with my sister as well*

  • They just tested me for it yesterday, so I will find out the results next week at my appointment.  My doctor said that since I've never had it I should be fine but she also said you can have it with one pregnancy and not another one.
