Here is why I wish I lived in the south....

Magnolias and gardinias.  Seriously---the flowers/trees and gardening I would do if I lived somewhere warmer.

We lived in Alabama until I was in second grade and remember how pretty the flowers and trees were.  Then my parents spent a year in Louisiana a few years ago, and their yard was GORGEOUS!

Here in brasky, we plant annuals...but not until Mother's Day weekend....and the choices---eehhh, nothing special, petunias, pansies and geraniums.

I want magnolias and gardinias.....

That is all.

  • I have such a brown thumb but was thinking about trying to flant some flowers this year. Maybe I'll try those. I can't wait for the dogwoods to bloom.

  • by any chance were you reading Southern Living? I was reading mine last night and thinking the same thing.  Gorgeous pics and all I could think was wow, I have another 2-3 months before we can even think flowers around here.

  • It is suppose to be 60 degrees and sunny this weekend.  That is why I live here!  I do have several gardinias and they make the whole yard smell nice.

Magnolias on the other hand not so much.  My parents have 4 and they have way too many leaves.  They are great to climb though.

  • ...one of the reasons I will most likely never move out of the south...whether I stay in MS or go back home to LA.

And I agree with Joe....magnolia trees are SOOO fun to climb!

  • I LOVE magnolias!  I lost the magnolia fight with patrick to a cleveland pear in the front yard but one day I WILL remove those pines in the backyard and replace them with magnolias!
  • If it makes you feel better my allergies killed me in Nashville b/c of all the flowering trees and they bloom early so it sucked.

  • I live in Houston and you should see our yard.  The late snows two weeks ago killed off everything.  We rarely have snow at all, and we've had it 3-4 times this year, and what wasn't killed off by the first snow, was definitely killed by the last one.  Everyone's yard looks like a dry wheat field, with only weeds coming back.
