WDYT, stainless steel countertops?

I want to do stainless steel on the upper part of our bar in the basement and then something else on the lower part. Would that look weird? DH thought I wanted everything SS and was willing to do it and he said that if I do two different things it will look bad. I don't want it to look too modern, I think the regular coutertop would soften it up a bit.

All I can think of is the fingerprints.

The thought of constantly cleaning off fingerprints is driving me crazy. Stainless steel is a huge PITA to keep looking clean.

I'd probably put the stainless on the bottom portion and wood on the top.

Ditto the fingerprints comments. I can't even imagine trying to keep the counters looking nice.

I had stainless countertops in an apartment house that I lived in.  I liked the look and from a distance they looked nice but up close they had thousands of tiny scratches.  I don't remember fingerprints being an issue though.

It would be an entertaining bar not ones for little kids. I guess for $100 I will try it and replace it if I hate it.

My sister has stainless countertops and they're really nice -- she doesn't have kids though!
