I've still been reading about everyone's stories and progress...just not up to responding lately. I'm kinda "blah" for the moment. So I guess I've been around, just not active...
As of February, its been one year since we decided to go the adoption route...and as of March its been one year since I've been a part of this board. I can't tell you how valuable your advice and your lives have been for my own personal growth!
Life's been quiet around here - as far as the foster to adoptive process goes. As some of you know we did have a placement in December...but then shortly were placed into a kinship placement. Since then we've received a few calls - two of which we accepted, only to find out hours later another placement was found -- even though we accepted. That first one still pangs me - it was a 7 week old, I was ALMOST to the hospital and I get a phone call saying she was placed with someone else -- in this case a family member. That story was that it was a 7 week old that the mom dropped child off at hospital and said I can't be a mother anymore -- signed her rights away and left. Hours later, the grandparent found out and wanted the child in their home. While I'm glad that a family member was found, it makes me sad to think that I was so close to getting a baby! So long story short, no children since December, two failed placements and alot of other phone calls.
To avoid focusing in on it I've emerged myself into my new practice (Counseling) that I opened up last fall. I've also gone back to school to be a part of a post graduate program to help me specialize in working with children in the clinical setting. I *LOVE* my program! I am doing that long distance - once a month I travel to meet up for class, the rest is online. So overall...keeping myself busy!
I'm so happy to hear of so many placements and finalized adoptions lately. Makes me joyous to read your happy stories
take care everyone!
