Can your dh do your dd's hair?

If so, what is easy for him to do?  I have to go out of town and I can pick out outfits for a few days but I can't very well do their hair in advance.  He's tried barrettes & ponytails before but he can't ever seem to get them in tight.  I don't want them going to school & dance looking like big hairballs.  Any ideas?

Re: Can your dh do your dd's hair?

  • My DH does DD#1 hair most everyday lately as I am too busy feeding DD#3.  He brushes it & puts in ponytail or barrettes--that's it.  I can't say that she doesn't look like a hairball by the end of the day most days though--LOL!

  • NO!  He won't even brush it, it's bad.  I have to do it every morning before I leave the house.  I would be happy if he could just brush it.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • Would it hurt anything to just have him brush it and throw on a headband?  Or just leave it down?

DH would never be able to do it, but DD loves her hair short and pulls things out of it anyway, so in our house it's a moot point.

  • He will brush it and put a clip in it to keep it out of her eyes, but thats about it.  He has noidea how to put any type of poney tail in it at all.

  • He does a decent job if he has to.

  • Nope.  It's literally the only thing he can't do, but he even has trouble figuring out how the get the hair ties out at night when he gives her her bath.

My oldest has major cowlicks, so I normally either flat iron it if she bathes the night before or blow-dry if she showers in the morning.  If he could handle blow-drying it would be ok down, but I'm not sure he would get how to brush it smooth.  I wouldn't even suggest the flat ironing!

  • He will brush it...and puts in barrettes to keep it out of her face.  He will once in a great while (usually after her bath) put it in a pony tail, but that's rare.  I watched him try to twist the hair band one time and it was quite humorous.  Something I guess I take for granted :)
  • No DH would not be able to do her hair.   I remember my mom telling me that when I was 5 and she was in the hospital after having my youngest brother my dad took me to school with a hairbrush and pony tail elastics in hand and asked the teacher to do it.  Ha!  I could totally see my DH doing that.
  • DH usually puts a bow in her hair. Or a ponytail really tight.

She looks like a hot mess after being with daddy!

I don't think dh can loop a rubberband more than once so his ponytails slide out after about a minute.

  • Not really. He can brush it and put in a headband, but his fingers are too big to get elastics on tight.

  • He can do brushing and headbands.  He had long hair for years so I don't understand how he can't do a ponytail but he really can't.

  • DD doesn't like anything in her hair. We just brush it in the morning. DH can totally handle that. :)

  • I would try the bows with the alligator clips.  Those seem to be the easiest for my DH to put on DD.
  • No, he never does it.  He pretends he can't.  He's not that clumsy with his hands, he does finish carpentry.

The style she usually wears is one a DH shoudl be able to handle.  Usually it is in sort of a half-up half down but over to the side.  If it is already like that he would just have to brush it (which mine won't) and redo the elastic part.

  • Sorry it's not like that in my sig, but imagine the sideswept part in an elastic.
  • Yes, he can.  He does a pretty good job most of the time.  He did pigtails on her once and parted it better than I had before.  I was impressed!
