I think I have a milk blister on my right nipple. I have had pain there for a week and I thought that DD had just injured the nipple. She will turn her head quickly with my nipple still in her mouth. It looked like a white callus forming.
Well, the pain has gotten much worse in the last day. I went to kellymom and looked up clogged duct. I saw a link for milk blister and the picture looks like my nipple. There is a hard area "under" the blister...is this some milk clogged in the duct? DD is asleep right now. I applied a warm compress. I will reapply when she wakes up and nurse her on that side. I hope that it helps to clear the obstruction.
If you had a milk blister with a clogged duct, how long did it take to heal? What did you do to treat it? Thank you, ladies.
Re: Help...milk blister
I have had more than my share due to a crappy latch and oversupply in the beginning. I put a hot compress on the area, then tried to "pick" the edge with a clean fingernail. It only partially worked I guess, because it came back in the same spot. I finally got so desperate that I sterilized a pin and popped it. It wasn't as painful as I though it would be, but it wasn't pleasant either.
Ouch. I hope it clears with warm compress and nursing, but if it doesn't I will try to lift the edge first. I feel something hard under the blister...did you feel anything under yours?
Yes, it was like a hardened piece of milk that came out once I popped it.
Can I ask how long it took to resolve with the warm compresses? I first noticed a white spot a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was just a callous forming. It felt a little sore just when she would pull off quickly. The pain got worse a couple of days ago and has been increasing. I hope that it is close to resolving. I used warm compresses today, but it is still there.
