I am not a vegetarian but I have been completely turned off meat with the pregnancy. As an added bonus nut/peanut butter causes projectile vomiting. I'm not sure what I am going to do.
You could also try meat substitutes - like bocca burgers. Personally, I like garden burgers because they seem less meat like. You could also try other nut butters besides peanut butter - if you have a health food store near by.
Nuts seem to work well for me when my stomach is off.
Some other protein souces have carbs. in them - you can use them - but be sure to add them to your total carb count - things such as hummas, beans, soy milk, etc.
Oh - and one other idea - depending on how your stomach tolerates it - protein powder. I make a shake w/protein powder every night before bed and it consistently gives me a good fasting #.
Thanks. Do you use Whey protein? I was worried I was going to have to cut this out. I might try some other nuts. The only thing I have found that isn't making me sick right now is cashews and I wonder if it is because it isn't a real nut. And to top it off, I am also mildly lactose intollerant. I can eat cheese/yogurt but drinking milk makes me very sick, so soy milk it is.
I use whey protein. I spoke w/a nutrionist before I got pregnant and this is the one she recommended - www.unjury.com There is one that has no flavor - so you can add it to things like tomato sauce - but I haven't tried it yet. So far, I use the chocolate and strawberry flavors and make shakes w/them.
I also am dealing w/mild lactose intolerance - and only use soy milk. I tried lactaid - but it still made me sick. Cheese is ok - I think because of the enzymes in it. Most soy milk is fortified to add calcium - just check the label.
You may also want to talk to your doctor if you are still struggling w/morning sickness type symptoms. They would be able to help you decide if it is worth it to add an anti-nausea drug to make sure you are getting adaquate nutrition.
I had to take Zofran for a long time in first tri but this nut thing is different. It makes me way sicker than morning sickness as far as BAAAD projectile vomiting (not just normal puking) and dizziness etc. I had a Reese's peanut butter cup 2 or 3 weeks ago and it made me super sick all over again even though I hadn't puked in weeks. It's almost like I have some sort of new nut allergy or something.
Re: Any vegetarian GD's?
Veggie here:) Sorry to hear about the peanut butter:(
Here is a cookbook I use - https://www.amazon.com/30-Day-Diabetes-Miracle-Cookbook-Follow/dp/0399534210/ref=pd_sim_b_1 - but I will warn you - you have to be ok w/tofu for this to work for you. Also, some of the recipes need more protein - so I add in cheese.

Hopefully that gives you some ideas:)
