Grammar help

If this is correct......"John and I have a couch."

Then how do you make that possesive.......

"John and I's couch."

or

"Mine and John's couch."

or

call it a day and just say "Our damn couch"? lol

I would go with "our couch" or "the couch that John and I have" as in

    "Our couch is green."

"The couch that John and I have is green."

But I think "our couch" is the best bet.

AW!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!

I do realize that "Our couch." is the best of the choices but that's because I didn't have the right one as an option lol. Plus, sometimes you really want to point out the owners of said item and don't always want to use 'our'...kwim?

You beat me to it JaysGrl!  A quick rule of thumb is to take one out of the sentence and see if it makes sense still, example:  John's couch.  My couch.  Put them together and that's usually right!

John's couch (take out and my)

    My couch (take out John)
