what age do kids start joining up writing

DS started joining up his writing a couple of weeks ago. Is that normal for a 4 year old? I guess nothing is normal but what age do they normally start doing that? I imagine I was 7 or 8 before I started doing it in school.

They usually start that in 2nd or 3rd grade here, I think, which is at about 7 or 8.

LOL. I'm pretty sure I started learning cursive in 3rd grade (so 8 years old).  Most 4 year olds are just learning to print their names.
