2nd Trimester

watched Platinum Baby's

so yes the ladies spent a lot of money on their showers but they also are super rich!!

It didn't bother me at all.

However they all hosted their own babyshower and I keep reading about how that is really tacky?

What do you think?

Re: watched Platinum Baby's

  • oh it didn't bother me, I was amused watching it. I don't like to comment on tacky b/c in different areas, circles of friends things are accepted.

The ones I was watching yesterday were so funny, 20K on a nursery. Yikes.

  • I don't think I would do that but maybe when you're in that category (really wealthy) it's just easier b/c you get exactly what you want and you pay for it so you don't seem like a primadonna or anything. Everything would (hopefully) go exactly as you planned it and would be to your specifications. I watched VH1 Fabulous Life of.....celebrity babies and it was ridiculous what stars give each other and what people buy for their kids.

  • I don't think I would host my own shower, I would feel weird about it.  But I don't think it's bad for a woman to host her own.  Showers can be A LOT of work and expecting or asking a friend to do it is quite a big request.  Most women have a big say in what the shower is like anyways, so i don't think its wrong for someone to host thier own.

I would have no problem going to a shower for someone who hosted their own.  That being said, I would never host my own shower, I would feel like I was grubbing for gifts.  It would make me uncomfortable.

  • I don't think it's tacky to. It's a hard economy right now, not easy for someone to jump on hosting a baby shower for you. Just an average one you are looking at a few hundred $'s. My hubby and I are hosting our own, but we will call it a celebration of life instead of a baby shower. :)
  • I havent watched the show..I saw commercials though and though coach shoes for an infant were ridiculous but if they have the money and want to blow it that way, not my problem :)

I made a post on showers before and wrote that I had always assumed the mother to be *always* threw her own shower I was put through a loop when it was "supposed" to be someone else..all the showers I went to they never really made mention of the "host" so I had assumed..My mom is supposedly throwing mine but I'm helping with the plans and some say that it's "gift grabby" to be involved or doing your own shower.. We dont need the gifts.. I like showers for the games/company etc.. all thats on my registry are simple things..blankets, diapers, bottles..Guess it just depends..

  • @ AZRAYLA

the show is boring, not missing out on much. I watched 4 episodes in 30 mins because I only cared about how the showers were done LOL. Hubby DVR'd for me yesterday, we have UVERSE so he did it from work :)

All the baby showers I have been to have been thrown by the mommy's to be also, so I'm on the same boat as you. I guess it just depends on where you're from.

  • I'm with a previous poster that I'm not too fond of saying what is tacky and what isn't, because in different areas, situations, etc, it can be the norm.  As long as in each invitation the guest isn't dictated what to buy hah, I think shower stuff is usually fine :)  That being said, another reason these women/couples may be hosting their own showers... they have a ton of money, they don't really need gifts, it's more for the party aspect of it.  It's more of a social thing celebrating the fact that the woman is having a baby and hey bring presents if you want, but I wouldn't view it as tacky because it almost seems, for a lack of a better way of saying it, an honor to be invited to some of these showers!  One had this celullite or something like that reshaping spa services for the women to go to during it!  So you know it's not a "gift grab" on the parents part because the money they're probably spending on the shower triples the value amount of what they'll be getting in gifts.  Does that make sense?
