Shower games that don't suck

Help! It has been insisted that there are shower games at my shower and the one's that my mom has suggested are pretty bad! Does anyone have any ideas for fun and quick games that don't drag on forever?

If I have to play the cross your legs clothing pin game or have people guess how large I am around with a string I might throw up! Please help :)

Re: Shower games that don't suck

  • Bingo where you guess what the gifts will be. Keeps people entertained while the gifts are being opened.

  • I enjoyed the "cut a piece of string that would closely resemble the circumference of my belly" game.  The funniest was my husband's string.  (We had a family / co-ed shower in our hometown).
  • At my friend's baby shower we all decorated plain white onesies with fabric paint.  It was fun to do and to see what other people came up with.
  • One easy one that I saw at a recent shower I went to was that everyone get a cheap beaded necklace and anytime you were caught saying "cute" (or  whatever word you decide on), the person who heard you say it got to steal your necklace.  The lady with the most necklaces at the end won a prize.  If someone had 5 necklaces and said "cute", all 5 were taken by the person who caught her.  It was easy and not embarrassing for anyone.  It was also interesting to see how many people wanted sooo badly to say the magic word!

  • We played a game where the host got candy bars and glued them to a poster board, she gave out clues and you had to guess which candy matched the clue. Like Hospital bill- 100Grand, Breast feeding- MilkyWay, ect. I thought it was a lot of fun.

I'm also known for having really random things in my purse. So the host had me write down 10 things in my purse and through out the shower she would call our an item and if anyone else had the same thing in their purse they got a prize. It's kind of sad that I wasn't the only one with a pair of socks in my purse!

  • There were two at my shower. First: Make a baby - everyone gets some playdough and they have to make a baby. I got to choose the best baby. There were some interesting figures.

Second: Dirty diaper game. My friend got 6 different kinds of chocolate candy and melted them together. She then placed it in a diaper. It looked disgusting. Everyone had to guess what 6 candies there were.

A friend went to a shower where they played a game where you put a plastic baby (like from a King cake) in ice cubes. Then each guest gets a baby cube in their drink. When the ice melts and the baby comes out, the person yells, "My water broke" and they get a prize. She said it was funny to see what people would do to get their ice to melt fastest. You just can't bite it.

  • My SS knows I am not a big fan of games so the ones she did were really simple - a baby crossword, these lotto ticket things (they were made specifically for shower games, one in a pack had a winning combo and that person got the prize) and this thing where she handed everyone a clothespin at the beginning of the shower and they put it on. Any time someone said the word "baby" and another person noticed, they took their clothespin. At the end of the shower, whoever had the most clothespins won a prize. I also think things like baby bingo are fine and not annoying :) Ditto on the timer thing.
  • I saw once at shower that was male and female the girls would take bottles filled with juice and have the men sitting on chairs and "Feed" them and whoever finished the bottle first would win a prize.. It was hilarious to watch.. I also agree with PP the string belly measurement guess is always a winner :D I've also been to one where they take baby food and remove labels then you guess what food is in the jar by smell/taste and the dirty diaper chocolate bar one..

My friend had this set up at my shower.  It was a huge hit with everyone and it was fun to read the onesies when I was home :)

  • We did a game kind of like Outburst. Everyone was divided into two teams and categories included "Things you need when the baby is sick," "nursery rhymes," "Dr. Seuss books."

It got everyone involved together and was a lot of fun.

  • we played something similar to this at my shower and it was hilarious. but instead of actually talking on the phone we just did that you had to hold the phone, and everyone yelled random distracting things in the back ground like "hey babe wats for dinner?", "Mom I want a popsicle", "Is dinner ready yet?" "Did you finish my laundry?" and things of that nature. The people holding the rope also thought it would be more interesting if it was "windy" outside so they would wiggle the rope while you tried to hang things. Oh and we only did one minute not three minutes, but no one got more than 6 pieces of clothes to stay on the line.

     -1 baby doll
    - 1 piece of rope or string about 5 feet long
    - 1 small clothes basket
    - 10 articles of baby clothing
    - 1 package of clothes pins
    - An operating home telephone
    - A cell phone
    - A timer (An egg timer works just fine for this game.)
    - A gift for the winner (Pick something general, since you're not sure who will be winning. A gift certificate to a restaurant or something similar is a great idea.)

    This is how you play:

For this baby shower game idea, each guest gets a chance to be the multi-tasking mommy. Two other guests will hold the string between them like a clothesline. The hostess or another person will hand the multi-tasking mommy the baby doll, the clothes basket, and the clothes pins.

They will also be given the telephone, and someone will call them from the cell phone and try to have a conversation with them. They can try asking them certain questions to make them pay attention, such as, "What was your husband's name again?" or "What was the name of your very first pet?"
The mommy will have three minutes to hold the baby, while speaking on the telephone and hanging up the baby clothes. When the timer goes off, she stops. Someone will write down the number of clothing articles she was able to hang up. If someone drops the baby, they automatically lose.

Whom ever gets the most Items to stay on the line wins

  • There is no such thing, IMO.  That being said, maybe have people guess the length, weight, birthdate or something like that.  I HAT E shower games times a million... ugh shoot me...
  • The candy bar game is disgusting... why would you want to play with fake poop?  Gross...
  • The simplest ones are the timer game that a PP mentioned and the Bingo game.  My only suggestion with the Bingo is that you make up cards in advance with the items from your registry listed randomly in the squares.  Guests mark off the items on their cards as you're opening gifts and when they get a straight Bingo, 4 corners, etc. they yell out and get a prize.  Very simple and keeps people occupied during the (let's face it) most boring part of the shower for guests.

    This.

Every shower I have been to where they do this everyone is so grossed out by the end that they don't even play.

  • Ooh - I just thought of another one that's quick and simple (and doesn't involve you as the mother - my second criteria for shower games).  Celebrity stuff:

    1) Match the celebrity baby name with the parent(s).

    2) Match the celbrity with his/her baby/youth picture.

My SIL did something like this for guests as my shower and it went over really well because it sparked a lot of random conversations between people who'd just met.

  • I saw it mentioned on here already but it was a great hit at a baby shower I hosted (I just didn't let the guests see the candy bars in order to make it more difficult). I bought a bunch of candy bars and had a clue for each one, the person who thought of it first would get the candy bar. The game moves extremely quick and who doesn't love candy?

Twins - Twix, baby laughs -Chuckles (had to find this candy bar at Cracker Barrel) or Snickers, breastfeeding - Milky Way; engorged breasts - Mounds, umbilical cord - Twizzlers, baby girl - Baby Ruth, what you depend on after seeing hospital bill - Payday, etc.

I also had everyone send me picture of themselves (under the age of 2) for a game. This game took more effort on my part so the host should be prepared for that. I then scanned the photos on a Photo Slideshow cd and numbered them in order. Everyone had a numbered piece of paper and had to guess whose baby picture belonged to who. I thought it was going to be super easy but it was actually fairly difficult for most people and everyone had a blast trying to figure them out.

  • At one shower they had a baby bottle full of M&Ms and you had to guess how many where in there then my sister found these napkins with questions, I filled it out and then the person with the closest number of correct answers to mine won a prize.

We did this for my sister's shower, but the magic word was "baby."  Everyone was trying to trick each other into saying it.  Silly, but fun.

We also had ice cubes with a plastic baby inside (michaels or dollar store).  Whoever melted theirs first won a prize.  (Someone always puts the ice cube in their cleavage.)

  • At my shower my host planned a game where small exerts from a song were played. Each of the song titles had the word "baby" in them. The person who listed the most correct titles was the winner.

All the guests seemed to really enjoy this game!

  • I hate all shower games except the gift bingo that a PP mentioned. I like it when guests can fill in the squares themselves themselves before gift opening begins, as opposed to the ones that are pre-filled.

  • Here is one I liked:  Baby Items Price is Right. . . go and buy 5 or 10 small baby items (pack of washcloths, a soother, pack of socks, onesie, baby spoons, etc) and then give everyone a chance to guess the price -- closest without going over.  Whoever gets the most right wins a prize, and the mom-to-be gets to keep all the baby items!!

We played this game at my sister's wedding shower and it was a lot of fun.

Fill a diaper bag with all kinds of random baby-related items (bibs, onesies, diaper pins, diapers, bottles, burp cloth, rattle, pacifiers, etc). I mean, really fill it up with stuff. Pass the bag around - everyone gets 10 seconds to look through it. When they're done they have to try to remember as many objects as possible (write them down on a piece of paper). The person who remembers the most wins.

My mom made a list of baby "facts" about my husband and I. People had to try to guess which fact belonged to which parent. (Baby's first words were "hot" and "uh-oh". This baby's favorite place to sleep was mom and dad's bed. This baby weighted 10 lbs at birth, etc)

Put everyone in pairs. Tie one set of wrists together (so they have one free hand, and one hand bound to the other person). Give them a baby doll with a diaper and an outfit. Have them change the diaper and re-dress the baby. The fastest team wins.

  • How about diapering baby dolls while blindfolded? We played 3 women at a time. It was fun. I won!

  • Thanks Ladies! I think Baby Shower Bingo is my favorite so far...waiting for gifts to be opened is sooo boring!

The multitasking mommy is a good one too!

Thanks for all of your suggestions!
