I think I may quit cloth diapering..any ideas?

I am so annoyed. All the ones I had for JLK dont work on The Boy. After about an hour they leak..sometimes earlier.. I end up needing to change him all the time. I chose to cloth mostly for the money saving aspects of it...Having to buy more isnt gonna save money. And I am worried to buy more that may not fit him correctly..

I looked into the Jilians drawer trial but I dont want the chinese prefolds I already have those..

Right now I use Kissaluv contours (or pre-folds) with different covers. I launder at home.

I hate the money wasted on all the disposables...

  • We do disposables only because EJ pees soooo much...he will saturate a disposable within 3 hours.  I tried an AIO and a prefold and he just peed straight through...

I agree with you completely on the money factor and I also dislike the environmental impact of disposables...but at this point in diapering it just makes sense.

  • Sooo...you don't want to buy more?  At this age wouldn't it still be cost effective to buy more since he'll be in diapers another 2 years or longer?  The jilliansdrawers trial has quite a few different diapers, and if you are sure that you don't want prefolds maybe contact them and ask if you can switch?

Do you think the issue is not absorbent enough diaper or not protective/well fitting enough cover?

This. They have awesome, awesome customer service. Tell them what you're doing now and talk through your options.

Babies bodies are different. Like the jeans that look rockin' on you, could fit me terribly even if we're the same size. That's why I've heard trying out a few different options is a good idea.

With that said, know you can always sell your current diapers. There's a big marked for used cloth didies and you can use that revenue to subsidize a new purchase. You can't exactly re-sell used disposables Indifferent

PS. If we lived closer I would totally let you try out some of our Bum Genius dipes. We have enough to get us through 4 days, so I'd totally lend you some (esp now since G is on anti-biotics and in disposies through the end of the week).

  • Have you stripped the diapers/covers? washing causes build up which can cause them to be less absorbant. Try washing them and adding just a couple of drops of Dawn detergent to the load.  or google "stripping cloth diapers" for more info.

I think its both...but mostly absorbancy issues.

I would do this.  Even if you have to buy more, you'll still be saving money since Jonathan will be in diapers for quite a bit longer and keep in mind, most boys potty train later than girls.

Check out fuzzibunz one size or perfect size...there are these cool little adjustments for the legs that help make for a perfect fit and they are a pocket diaper so you can add more for absorption.

We ended up getting the BG 3.0 one size...I like the fuzzibunz too but they don't have velcro...they snap on and it's just not as easy/convienent to get on...especially at night.

  • Bunny is an enormously heavy wetter. We just started using doublers and that solved that issue. I like the fuzzibunz, but everyone makes them. Maybe give that a shot?

As far as absorbency issues, I rec the brand we use, Sandy's Mother Ease diapers and air flap covers, which are "leak free" https://www.mother-ease.com/   They hold 15 oz of fluid!  The covers work great too.  J pees through disposable overnights, but one of these with a doubler gets him through 11 hours.  Maybe do a little research on fluid capacity of diapers you're interested in?  And give that trial a go...  Good luck!
