I plan on BFing, but I will be buying a pump. I'm interested in other people's responses.
FWIW, my sister told me that even if I plan to BF exclusively, I should still get some kind of pump. When her oldest was born, she didn't latch on for 15 days. If my sister hadn't had a pump, they would have had to use formula.
While I think this is a rare situation, I'd rather be prepared. Especially since I'll want a pump for nights out once LO is older.

yes i plan to bf exclusively too but i know there will be instances where it might not be ideal. if i have to use formula in a pinch so be it but i would like to have bottles on hand if i am gone for an evening or even to pump so i don't get backed up.
I plan to BF and am definitely getting a pump - have heard great things about the Medela Pump in Style (lasts longer that other pumps for multiple babies, electric, etc). I plan to pump while on maternity leave to start building up a supply and pumping at work when I go back.
I'm on the fence about BFing, but if I do I'm going to rent a pump from the hospital. They are $30 a month and are extremely high quality. If you plan to BF for a long time, it's probably more economical to buy one though. I hear great things about Medela pumps
I also plan on BF-ing, but will be buying a pump, so after the first 6 weeks or so, we can introduce breast milk in bottles as an alternative to my breast. DH really wants to do some of the night time feedings, as he feels that he wants the baby to be able to rely on him for safety and nourishment, which i'm all for!!! It will help grow THEIR father/child bond, AND it means more sleep for Mommy!! Plus, for whatever reason, say baby is with Grandma or something, I don't have to worry about rushing home, as there is the bottle option.
One of my good friends has the Medela pump and says it's amazing! SHe also used an electric one, and said she pumped just as much in the same amount of time manually than with the electric one, so advised me to save my money and get the manual one, as it works just as well!!

I had a lot of moms recommend it to me. ?It's pricey but I plan to BF for a full year if I can & I'd like to have 2 kids so I think it will be well worth it!?
I have a Medela PISA and a Medela Freestyle. I like both, but LOVE the Freestyle. It's so much lighter, which is nice for trekking across campus from my car to my office. Also, it's not just hands free, it's everything free! You can just clip the tiny motor part to your waist and be totally mobile - not tied to the wall, or a bag, or whatever. I loved being able to shut my door and file, sort through things, etc. while pumping.
