if you eliminated dairy, etc.

Did you have a diagnosis of an allergy first or did you just start eliminating?  How long did it take to see a difference?

I, of course, will do whatever I can to help Cara feel better, but I'm a vegetarian so if I cut out dairy and soy that doesn't leave much for me to eat which is why I haven't tried it just to see if it works.

Thanks.

  • Nope, I just cut it out. . . just the "obvious" forms of dairy to start (and that ended up being enough).

The spitting got better within a week, the fussing took a little longer.

I was able to start reintroducing small servings of dairy starting around 9 months.

  • I cut dairy and soy when Emma was 2 months and the recommendation of her ped for much of the same behavior you're describing.  It takes about 3 weeks to see the full results (1 1/2 - 2 weeks to clear your system and an additional 1-1/2  to clear theirs after you finish).  The change in Emma's behavior in that 3 weeks was incredible!   She was like a different kid.  After 6 months I started experimenting to see if/what she could handle and now I can have a touch of butter and almost unlimited cooked cheese (anything that's good and melted) and grated cheese, but uncooked cheese (I've tried cheddar and American) really disagrees with her.   Once she can handle uncooked cheese I'll try yogurt and if she does well with that I'll try milk.

  • I never had an allergy diagnosis for DD, but when she was crying non-stop and nothing was helping, her pedi recommended cutting out dairy.  It took 2-3 weeks to see a change.  Her pedi recommended cutting out the main sources (milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc) and that was enough.  I didn't have to totally eliminate it.

  • I started cutting it out before we got the official diagnosis.  I think he started improving within a few days, but it wasn't until I cut out all the allergens (after his testing around 6 months) that he really got better.

I'd start with "raw" forms of dairy -- milk, yogurt, ice cream, etc.  That may make enough of a difference.  I ended up having to cut even trace amounts. He would get sick if I ate so much as a bite of something that had been cooked in a pan with butter.  It was ridiculous.

Also (maybe you mentioned this before) but what do her poops look like?

I just did it. His symptoms were classic (including trace blood in his stool that the doc found via fecal occult)

at a year I had him tested for allergies and they came back negative.  But he still has an intolerance.

With my little girl I was on top of it and started the elimination diet at 37 weeks.  I trialed her later and she reacted, too.  She outgrew hers at 9 mos though.

  • I did.  It was hellish.  It took about 2-3 weeks for me to notice a difference in Sydney.  Her poops were different too.

The only meat I do eat is chicken and turkey, so that's about all I had.  That, and salads.  It was so boring!  A lot of the veggies made her gassy, so I tried to limit those too.  I ate a lot of fennel and drank a lot of chamomile tea.
