Mom's of 2+

What was your dilation/effacement progress with your subsequent children (if you were having internal exams).  Was it similar to #1 or no correlation?

Re: Mom's of 2+

  • No correlation.  One was born at 38 weeks and the other almost 41.  One took 12 hours, the other took less than 5 hours from start to finish.  I was never more than finger tip at an exam.

  • Z.E.R.O correlation. I went into labor with Owen 5 weeks early being only a finger tip dilated and with Luke I was 4 cm dilated for 3 weeks (I felt like if I sneezed wrong he was going to shoot out of me like a cannon ball!)

  • They were both totally different.  The entire thing was different with both-from pregnancy up to birth.
  • Similar, but not good.  I never dilated at all - my dr. told me she'd tell me a fingertip if it made me feel better.  I delivered at 38 w with the twins bc of preeclampsia and knew I needed a c-section because they were transverse.  Adam was 10 pounds and head down for weeks, and I had a repeat c at 41 weeks.

  • No correlation

DS1 4cm/80% at my last appt, doc said I wouldn't make my induction 4 days later...I did

DS2 2cm/70% same as the previous week, doc said see you at the induction, didn't make it, went into labor 3 days later

  • With Erin, I was 4 cm and in early labor (regular contrax, but I still labored another 20 hrs after that check).  With Connor, I was 1 cm dilated 24 hrs before he was born and 4.5 cm with regular contrax when I was in early labor.  He was born 3 hrs later.  With Kate, I was 1.5 cm 2 days before she was born, 4.5 cm and completely irregular contrax 4 hrs before she was born.  They broke my water, and she was born after 1 hr of regular contrax.

I also remember being more dilated for longer with Erin.

  • no correlation.

I was induced at 41 weeks with DS1 and DS2 was born at 38.5 weeks on his own.

Labor with DS1 ( induction to end) was 17 hours and included one hour of pushing.

Labor with DS2 was 12 hours (from when my water started leaking) and I pushed for 15 minutes - 5 pushes.

The only similarity was that I did not have strong regular contractions with both of them and I was on petocin for it both times.

  • Mine were identical.  Dilated about 1 with both boys, and inducded at 39w5d with both of them (because they were over 9 lbs).  Even delivered them about the same time, and they weight exactly the same :)

  • Not much correlation. #1 was born 2 days after his EDD. #2 was born 11 days after her EDD.  #3 was born 3 days early & with #4 I was induced when he was 8 days past his EDD.  I had very little internal progress with #2 & #4 at my checks, even at 40wks.  With #3 I had the most progress at my last check & was like 3cm.
  • No correlations, other than I dilated early with both.  With DS i started at 1cm at 35 weeks and I think I was 2 cm on the monday at 37 weeks and had him on Friday.   DD I was 2 cm at 34 weeks, then 3 I think just shy of 37, and was induced the day I hit 37 weeks.  Both labors were 4 hrs.
