Why ? Herniated disks in back

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- We have 2 dogs.  A 13yr old red Doberman and a 2 1/2 yr old Golden Retriver.  We aren't really doing anything to prepare them.  They've both been around kids and babies a lot and we aren't worried about it at all.  The dobie is wonderful with kids and a big softie and golden's are so super good and chill that there shouldn't be any problems.  We are not going to try and keep them separate or away from Olivia, but let them love her up and feel like we still have the same family dinamic...hopefully this will prevent any jealousy.  The only issue we might run into is Bay (golden) got a look at the seahorse we got for Olivia and fell in love.  There might be some confusion as to what's her toys and theirs and I'm sure they'll get mixed up.  But a little dog slobber never hurt anyone, right?!

Updates- Nothing on my end.  Lots of contrax today, but pretty sporadic, so I'm not worried.  My Mom's coming up today to help with cleaning and packing as well as going over some stuff for our restaurant.  I'm really excited to have her come up and help out DH!

**Lauren updated about 7hrs ago on her FB page that she doesn't like the monitoring.  Nothing since then.  Let's all keep her in our thoughts and prayers.  Hoping her and Little Buddy are coming through this all well and we hear some good news soon!!

    Why ? Incompetent Cervix/Cerclage

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- I have a dog and 2 cats.  I'm not doing anything specific to prepare either.  I have heard of DH bringing home a baby cap or blanket from the hospital while me and LO are still there- so everyone can sniff it.  We'll probably do that.  But when we get home, I'm going to let them look at and sniff LO until they're comfortable- and hopefully all will go well.

Updates- I saw the OB yesterday and had an MFM appt. this morning.  My cervix went from 3.6 two weeks ago to 1.8 this week.  But the peri says that as long as there's functional cervix above the cerclage, not to get too worked up about the numbers.  Baby is growing on target and weighs 2lbs.3oz.  And they say that if I make it to 32w they will start giving me a little more freedom with the bedrest restrictions.  After MFM, I went over to L&D for the first steroid injection and I'm headed back there tomorrow for the second dose.  I feel alot better getting these.

My sister put down a deposit at a restaurant for the baby shower.  It will be at 32w if all goes well.  Fingers crossed!

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Yes we have one furbaby, Riley, an american staffordshire terrier.  She is so full of energy.  We have been working on exercising her more.  My DH and I were taking her for 2 walks a day, now she is only getting one while I'm on bedrest.  I miss our walks.  We have a CD of baby noises that we play occasionally.  Some of our friends with kids have been coming over to get her used to kids.  She is very curious and tends to lick everyone to death.  We leave the nursery door open for her to explore.

No update really have another measurement tomorrow and we meet with the NICU doc.  Had a mini-meltdown last night.  My mom is making me crazy.  She keeps telling me not to get fat and watch what I eat, how's my blood pressure, I'm going to get GD.  Ugh seriously.  I've put 5 lbs on this pregnancy and have been exercising daily.  She has aways given me a hard time about my weight.  She wants to cancel my baby shower.  She says no one wants to see me and that everyone is there for the baby anyways.  Do it after Maddy is  born.  She is going to make me crazy.

    Why ? Chronic Placental Abruptions

Question of the Day-  Yes, we have a 4 yr old Boston Terrier.  She is good with my daughter and my friend had her newborn over a few weeks ago and she was so excited to 'love' on the baby.  Only problem we ever had was that our dog wanted to lay down on the baby's playmat but she's learned what toys are hers and what's off-limit.

Update: Had my peri/MFM appointment yesterday.  U/S was great and our baby is getting bigger.  I've had some spotting but they couldn't find any active bleeds or clots - but Dr said that even if they can't see them it doesn't mean that a 'stream' or something isn't happening.

Baby is breech right now but I'm hoping that he has a while to flip around.  I hope.  My daughter was transverse up until around 34 weeks but I know that's more likely to change than full breech.  Also, he's measuring a little small so I go back in a month to check on his growth and the placenta.

Liz - I'm sorry your mom is being so terrible.  Maybe she could go with you to an OB appt and you could specifically ask about your weight and she could hear it from the doctor that you are doing great.  Ask about  - so what's the normal weight gain for most women at this stage?  Maybe that will enlighten her.  And yes - people want to see you - and rub your belly!!

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- We have two cats!  They are brothers, both orange tabbies that we adopted together.  We're not doing anything to prepare them, but I am having a hard time knowing that my attentions will shift once our twins are here.  For almost 5 years we have been crazy cat people, and we love our cats so much that it borders on nuts.  I just hope our cats continue to feel loved after the babies are here.

Update- No pregnancy news.  I had my shower on Sunday, which was so wonderful.  I am glad that I got to have one and experience a rite of passage for pregnancy, since I missed so much.  I have been going out everyday, and I am definitely exhausted by activity after all the time lying down.  Part of me worries that I am overdoing it (although I am following the rules), but I have yet to go into labor so it must all be fine.

Laura-- I also got some privileges back at 32 weeks, you will be there before you know it. We planned my shower for when I was 32w3d, and it was great.

Liz-- you've gained 5 lbs??? Amazing!  I am surprised your OB isn't telling you to gain more.  Also, people DO want to see you at your shower.  Everyone likes to see and rub your belly!

Answer- We have a very spoiled 2 year old Lhasa Apso. Her name is Mimi, and she has been our spoiled baby since the day we brought her home. Especially since I had a Miscarriage a year ago, my dog help me get through it. She was my therapy and my comfort. She has been around kids and does really good. She is very playful and when our 2 year old niece Sophie comes over Mimi loves to play with her and so does Sophie. How ever Mimi doesn't realize that Sophie is a baby and she can be a little rough because she wants Sophie to keep up with her. Mimi sleeps with us in our bed. I am a little worried because once we have the baby and she see's he will have our attention verses her she may get jealous. We plan to bring the baby's 1st blanket he uses in the hospital so she can sniff his scent. Also I'll lay in bed with Mimi next to me and I'll rub my belly and tell her here is the baby and she has licked my belly on occasions. Its really cute. I hope for our sake and my lil Mimi-lu it all works out. Updates- No real updates. My next MFM appt is next week. Last week I saw my OB and baby is doing great. At first my OB & MFM thought he was on the big side for his age, but it seems now he is right on target with his growth rate :)

    Why ? IUGR & PTL

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- We have an Australian Cattle dog (he's 4) who did great with our first DD. He is completely used to babies at this point. All of our friends bring their babies and little ones to our house. He's better with the babies than he is with the grown-ups. He still jumps on some people (those who love to rough house with him).

Updates- Had another BPP and NST today. Little girl looks wonderful. C-section is happening on Thursday because of the IUGR (she dropped from 5th percentile to 2-3rd). I keep watching for Lauren's updates because I'll be exactly 37w also! We're keeping LB in our prayers over here for a safe & healthy delivery!

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- We have an English Mastiff.  I don't think she has any inkling of what is going on.  But, I know she loves having me at home all day.  Going to be pissed when I go back to work and she gets put in the mudroom for the day.  I am not really doing anything to prepare her.  They are going to have to learn to live together.  She has been around a lot of kids and babies, but she doesn't show a lot of interest in them. I am sure she will sniff him from afar, but as soon as he learns to feed her in the highchair I am sure they will become best buds.

Updates- Still contracting,  not as intensely though.  Another 4d ultrasound Friday. He wasn't cooperating too much last time.  Kept his hand in front of his face.

LO was sleeping pretty much the whole time.  After my ultrasound they sent me up to L&D where I was there for 2 hours and thought I'd never leave.  They did another NST.  LO was moving, but not enough at times because again sleeping.  Eventually passed.  They thought they were going to have to do a BPP, but didn't.  I'm thinking a BPP will be soon.  I go to the OB tomorrow and I have lots of q's.T&P's are out there for anyone that needs it at this time.

Due Date: 4/28 but right now the goal is 34-36 weeks

Date on BR: 1/22 at 26 weeks

    Type: strict at home

    Why: PTL/1cm dilated

QOTD: we are trying to figure this out right now. We have a 7 year old labrador retriever who loves being the center of attention, and thinks all stuffed toys are hers. She is great with kids, although licks them a bit too much. So I think we'll just have to teach her some boundaries. She doesn't seem to get freaked out by babies crying, so that's good.

We also have a 4 year old cat who is a bit ornery. He's scared of loud noises so we're hoping that keeps him out of the babies' space. We're trying to teach him not to get in the bouncy seats, cribs, etc. by putting tin foil in them...we'll up the ante to sticky tape if needed.

We might try playing some CDs of baby sounds to get them used to the crying and such, and we're also trying to turn on the bouncy seats and swings sometimes to get them used to the noise and movement.

Update: had another good MFM appt today - had an NST and all babies are good, my cervix is still 1cm dilated (for 6 weeks now!), and our new goal is 34 weeks!

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

Answer- I don't have any pets, but I have a real kid I'm trying to prepare. He understands there's a baby in there, but I don't think he knows it will be coming out!

Update- Started dilating last week. Cervix is now 1cm. I still get to stay home because I didn't have any contractions. I'm having a lot of cramping today though, so I'm hoping it goes away.

My mom came to stay with us until the baby comes... If I make it to 34 weeks, that's about 6 weeks from now... hope we'll all survive, lol.

Yes, I have a maltese named Chloe. She's my baby. We read all the books, articles, and information out there and we have begun getting her ready for the twins. I think we did a pretty good job! :)

Update- I had a NST and growth u/s today. E has barely gained any weight. I have a doppler on Thursday and we'll do the BPP. She did gain weight just not much.  The NST went good. Everything looks good. Thank God. I don't think I can handle anymore.

Lauren, I hope you and LB are doing great and you're just in love and amazed with him!

Question of the Day- Do you have any furbabies and how are you preparing them for LO's arrival?

    Answer - No pets.

Update - had a nurse check today for my BP- it was normal. But my Dr decided to do a quick internal as i had had a lot of BH yesterday. On friday I was a fingertip dialated and baby's head was really low. TOday she couldn't even feel his head. And then it took awhile to find the heartbeat - it was very high up on my stomach so she was concerned he may have turned back to breech and she was worried about cord placement. So I got an unexpected U/S. Thankfully DS is still head down (just very high up) and the cord is not in the way so we continue towards our scheduled induction a week from today!!!
