Babies: 9 - 12 Months

6 monthers who aren't sitting up w/o assistance?

Make me feel like LO isn't the last baby on earth to sit up on her own! I honestly think she can, shes just lazy and likes to slouch a lot.

  • DD was not sitting unassisted at 6 months either.  She really had no interest.  One day it was like a switch flipped and she just decided she wanted to sit.

  • Ben has no interest in sitting up.  I think he's bored because he can't play and dance while sitting.  I try to get him to practice, and he just flings himself to the floor to get a toy or something.  You're not the only one!
  • I had one that sat unassisted at 6 months and one that was a good 7 months. Don't worry about it, they'll get there.
  • DD didn't fully sit up until the end of six months.
  • Define unassisted.

DD doesn't sit up by herself, I have to sit her.  Once she's sitting, she's ok without anything behind her but she didn't perfect it until the end of 6 months.  She still wobbles a little and loses her balance.

  • Neither were sitting up unassisted until about 7 months.

Meaning w/o needing your hands there to support. Putting her in sitting position and needing a boppy behind is ok. I'd love to sit her down and walk away!

  • DD can't sit up unassisted yet.  I sit her down and she'll stay put for a few mins then she'll lean over.  She rather lay on her back.  When she's ready she'll sit up, that's what I say.

  • DS just plain doesn't like to sit unless he's got his activity table or toys in front of him. He'll stiffen up his legs when I try to sit him on the floor or else once he's on the floor, arch his back and go over backwards. I think he got to be reliant on the Bumbo being there to catch him when he'd arch back and now he's got to learn to do it on his own. I'd love for him to be able to sit for his pictures on the 20th. Even if just for 3 or 4 minutes.

DD didn't sit up on her own until just after she turned 7 months.  I wouldn't worry too much.

  • DS doesn't sit up yet, I put him in a sitting position and he will see a toy and fling himself down. Has not interest in being there yet. It's ok, he's growing up too fast as it is.

Noah sat at 6 months, I think it will be closer to 8 months for Finn but he doesn't like eating solids yet either sooooo.

  • Joshua would sit up for a few seconds at 6 months. Last weekend, he sat up for half an hour straight, and has done that every day since.

my pedi said there's nothing to worry about if they don't sit up at 6 months. she said some kids are too active to sit still for any period of time, and skip it. Joshua was rocking on all 4s before he sat!

  • DS can do it for a little bit of time then gets stuck and can't lift himself back up.

  • I'm so glad I found this thread. I have a 6 1/2 month old. She will sit up with the Boppy behind her a little bit. Kinda bouncing around. My concern is when she gets mad she thrusts herself backwards as hard as she can. Which is fine with the Boppy behind her, but eventually she's going to knock her head on something. Anyone else have a little one that has/does the same?
