Bill for portion of ultrasound? Anyone?

Anyone get a bill for part of your ultrasound?  I got a bill for 110 dollars as part of my deducitble (so it will be coming out of the $2,500 we have to pay for an inpatient hospital stay for the delivery of the baby).  BUT, I have never heard of this, anyone else?

Re: Bill for portion of ultrasound? Anyone?

  • I did for my very first one at my Dr's office, because it was "in office" and my insurance doesn't cover that. Had I known that, I wouldn't have insisted on it. It was $200, but they did a Dr Courtesy and billed me for $130.. silly if you ask me, it was 5 minutes long.

  • Yep, we had to pay $250 deductible.

  • I had to pay a portion of my second ultrasound... and then a portion of my anatomy scan (almost $300) but those two bills alone met my deductible, so everything after this *should* be better.

  • I just paid a co-pay ($10), but it was less than my regular office visit co-pay of $15, but I am sure it just depends on the terms of your insurance.
  • My ultrasounds aren't included in my global pre/postnatal and delivery fee.  My insurance covers them but sine I haven't hit my deductible yet I had to pay out of pocket for the contracted amount ($150)
  • It really depends on your insurance- everyone's plan, deductibles and coverage is totally different.  If you are questioning the bill, I would call your insurance provider for more clarity.
  • I've had four ultrasounds up to this point, but I've only paid $40.  The first ultrasound was at 10 weeks in office at my OB/GYN's.  Though my insurance doesn't cover in office ultrasounds, the dr. did it informally at one of my routine visits so they could see the baby for themselves.  They didn't charge me for it and just considered part of the routine exam.

The second was for my integrated/sequential screen for Down's, etc.  I had to pay a $40 co-pay for the test, but that's it.

The third was my formal ultrasound at 21 weeks, which didn't cost me anything.  I did have to go to an outside radiology facility though b/c my insurance requires it.

I had a fourth ultrasound last week at the OB/GYN's office because I was experiencing bleeding and they wanted to get any idea why.  They also didn't charge me for that because they considered part of the routine exam.

I have an advanced ultrasound at the hospital this week because of the bleeding and that's suppose to be free too.

I guess it really depends on your insurance.  If you have any concerns, you can always call your insurance and they will let you know what is covered.

  • Yep, so far for me I have had to pay 1/2 of every u/s. . until I reach my deductable of 2000.. which crazy enough is only 250.00 away.
