FYI, I think changing tables are a waste of money. AND more..

I just put the changing pad etc. right on top of DS's dresser.

And I know I have said this before, but I will say it again. I love the Eurotub! I have been using it ever since DS was born.

Re: FYI, I think changing tables are a waste of money. AND more..

  • I agree on both of these things :) changing pad on the dresser and euro tub FTW Yes

I agree.  This is what we did for DD also.  Yes

I plan on putting a pad right on top of a dresser too.  I don?t see the point in ruining a good piece of furniture by nailing a few rails on top to make it a "changing table".

  • I am STILL using Lil's changing table, though she is getting too long for it.  I'm dreading having to retire it being pg because there is no way my huge pg ass will be able to get up and down from the floor to change her!  LOL

I LOVED her changing table.  I had baskets for the diapers, creams, and it looked really cute in her room.  I would def buy it again but I know lots of girls who don't use them.

  • Good--I was planning to just buy a dresser and stick a changing pad on it!
  • How do you keep the changing pad from moving around on the dresser top?

  • We used the changing table alot to get my daughter dressed and change a diaper when we were upstairs. However, we did not purchase a dress. She has a large walk in closet, so all her clothes are hung up and the changing table is in the closet.
  • But how did you get the changing pad to stay in place?   The changing table had a strap that attached to the pad and then the pad had a strap to put around baby...

  • We registered for the pad yesterday. I see NO point of a changing table when the top of the dresser works just fine.
  • I agree, but somewhere to change the baby is a must!. When DD was born we had a full bed in her room and we always changed her on that and then we moved and she started rolling so we opted to just change her on the floor, horrible, I'm so tired of getting down every time to change her, its a PITA! We just bought a dresser to use as a changing table for the new one yesterday, and I'm so excited! A place to change the baby is a must!!

There is this stuff you can buy at Lowe's and Home Depot that makes it not slide around.  I have no clue what it is called - but someone at the store should be able to help you.

I've also read that you can use the kitchen, non-slip material that you place under rugs.

  • Agreed but my nursery set comes with a free changing table with a promotion going on right now! So hey if its free right ? Smile

  • I agree that you don't necessarily need a changing table, but I think the pad is pretty necessary when the baby starts wiggling. There's no way I can change DD on the floor or the bed, it takes twice as long!

ETA: And we used those bath sponges in our tub when she was younger. It took up little space and they are like 6 bucks. The eurotub is nice too, though.

  • My changing pad sort of "sticks" to the dresser. I don't leave DS by himself on it ever - so there really is no need to "tie it down". Etc.

I have had no problems w/ it falling off - his weight keeps the pad down.

  • We have a dresser that has changing area built into the top of it.  I find this to be way more functional and my 4 year old still has it in her room right now and uses it as a dresser. I never found the changing pad moved around and we didn't have it stuck down with anything...we just never left a baby laying on there so it wasn't an issue?

I'm not so much worried about the pad, but keeping baby ON the pad...  I strap Lillian down all the time even though she can wiggle out from under it now.  I can't NOT having the pad secured to the dresser/table.

Yes, we are looking at dressers that have the changing table kind of built in on the top and then can be removed once we no longer need it.  But we in no way are going to be buying a dresser AND a changing table

Ditto this, although we had to retire DS's a few months ago when he decided to scale it one night.  A changing pad on top of a dresser is a good idea, if you have a dresser that allows it.  DS had a tall bureau, so it wasn't an option for us.

As with everything else about parenting, what works for one family doesn't work for all. Big Smile

  • We did the same thing.  And honestly, I rarely used that either.  It was so much easier to get on the ground, lay a blanket down and change him on the floor.

  • I'm glad to hear this because I had already planned to just buy a dresser and put a changing pad on it to save the money of having to buy a changing table as well.

    This!

Even when they have a convertible changing table where you can remove the rails and it showcases the piece of furniture in a toddler room... it STILL looks like a changing table.

  • We're going to keep the changing pad on the floor propped up next to the dresser and just change the baby on the floor. Our dresser is pretty small, so I need the top of it for a lamp and other stuff!

I registered for the euro tub...I've heard good things about it!

I got one simply b/c we have a small dresser for her and want to put other stuff on top.

  • OMG, yes.  I didn't get a changing table because I knew they'd be a waste of money, but I only used the changing pad about 10 times, and it was purely out of guilt- I bought this thing, I need to use it!  I've always changed K on the floor.  I might have used it more often, but we live in a two-story house and all the bedroom are upstairs.
  • We're going to go with the changing table with the built-in rails.  DH can't see and the edges just make him more comfortable as far as judging space & all that.  I can see how for most families it might be a bit extraneous though!  Plus the ILs gave it to us as a gift which was very cool too.
  • I'm putting the pad on top of DS's dresser as well! And-- I registered for a Euro tub!
  • Agreed and Agreed.

We just put the changing pad right on DS dresser and will do the same thing again this time.

And after FOUR bath tub's, we bought the EuroBath with DS was about 4 months old and haven't looked back since.  It was one of the best purchases ever.

  • I like the idea of putting a pad on top of a dresser to save space (not as many pieces in the room) that being said, we will have a separate changing table just because it's scary to me because it feels so unsecured.

I like having the pad secured in place, plus i love the storage space underneath that the changing table will provide.

When they're on it, it really doesn't slide at all.  But you can always put a area rug grip thing under it.

Ok, I lied. I just ordered the set that came with the free changer. Heee! But free is always good, IMO.

  • What did you do with all the stuff then (wipes, cream, diapers, etc)?  It's really a non-issue for us, since we were given the changing table and the room is so small that the dresser is actually in the closet-no way I'm ducking under hanging clothes to change by child.
  • The main reason i want a changing table is just the extra storage, i want to use the dresser for clothes/blankets ect and the shelving on the changing table for  diapers/ wipes/ first aid ect..

  • being in a wheelchair, I'm leaning towards using a bench/toybox for her room to match the crib - and that can STORE the baby's diapers etc... then toys later!

in my room I'm thinking of a storage ottoman  since its already padded - and again, I can keep supplies inside and reuse it later.

  • I did the same iwth the changing pad - much better use of the $$.

as for the eurotub ?- I just had a normal FP tub and DD is starting to finally be too big for it now. The eurotub looks HUGE! Is it really worth it to get it for DS? or im wondering if i should just use the same ole one that I have?

this is what we used for the changing pad we put on top of the dresser. i a) saw no point in having a separate piece of furniture for the deed and b) had no space in his room for one more thing.

as for the belt et.al., who leaves their kid on the changing table alone to roll around? my son never, not once, rolled off the changing table. sure, he could roll and he did so all the time. but, i'm standing right there. the changing table is not a place to leave your kid unattended, so what's the point of the belt?

personally, i think they are for people who need warnings on hot coffee "caution, contents are very hot."
