Size 5 or smaller pre-preggo??

OMG I am having the hardest time finding maternity clothes!! I am a size 2 or 3 normally and pretty tall. Where does one go to find cute maternity clothes if you are tiny??? I am swimming in the tops at Motherhood, NO way the pants will fit, but regular medium shirts make me look frumpy. Bah!

 Any luck for little mamas?

Re: Size 5 or smaller pre-preggo??

  • The only decent jeans I have found so far are rock and republic which run at $250.

  • Nope - size small in maternity isn't fitting me either, and I guess no one thinks to make maternity clothes in XS? It's definitely tough - all my pre-preg clothes are way too tight, and all my maternity stuff is still way too big. So no matter what, I'm using a belly band. I'll be watching this thread in case anyone knows of any good sources...
  • Have you tried just finding regular clothes in bigger sizes?  Also I be band which allows me to wear pre-pregancy clothes - it works kind of like a belt but it's big elastic (maybe not your style but I find it works for me right now).
  • a pea in the pod has some good pants- jeans etc but they run upwards of $200. I love mine! I couldn't fit into pants from anywhere else
  • I wear a size four pre-preggo, and I'm 5'8.  I own three pair of maternity pants, and that is it.  I have a pair of size 1 real waist khakis from Old Navy that are okay . . . although they are awfully short and I will probably end up cuffing them into capris when it gets a little warmer.  My other two pairs are from Kohl's.  I bought smalls and then dried the crap out of them to to try to make them a little smaller.

    Good luck!

  • I found XS at Kohl's, GAP, and I bought citizens jeans at Pea in a Pod.
  • I was size 4 pre-preggo and now wear a 2 short at Old Navy it is still a bit big but I thought I should grow into them a bit.  I also found a super cute pair of jeans at Pea in the Pod, their name brand.  I paid $70 and they fit like a glove super cute.  Old Navy.com has sizes that go down to 0 maternity and I found that is the best fit by far.  Good luck!
  • It is frustrating.  Nothing fits right now.  Most of my jeans from my last pregnancy came from Old Navy, but they are huge now.  I just can't justify spending a ton of clothes that are worn for such a short time.
  • I have bought pants at Gap and ON. They are sized in regular sizes (2,4 etc).  I have bought small tops from them too, which are large on me now but I figure as my belly gets bigger they will fill out.  They do carry things in XS though.
  • I am a size 1 and am pretty sure that I'll have lots of trouble finding pants that fit me correctly. But as far as tops go, you have a lot of choices because there are some super cute regular clothes that you can get that fit a little bigger that allow for a bump. Also, the maternity tops that I just bought fit me well even before I am starting to show very much! I bought a mixture of maternity tops and regular tops - I figured that I'd buy something that I can wear post-baby that won't just sit in my closet!
  • the only pants that I've had luck with are high-end denim.  citizen's. sevens...bad news is..they are around $200.  ugh!  also--pea in the pod leggings--they are great and so comfy!

I'm wearing size S shirts and they seem to look ok as long as the pants I'm wearing fit. lol

  • Last pg, I bought jeans at ON and didn't buy many maternity tops. I tried to find regular tops and just get them in bigger sizes.

  • I have some from Gap that fit ok, they have an adjustable waist band they don't have a front panel which I like they just have the back band. I also have a pair of leggings from there that I like really well
  • I'm ordinarily a size 2. Maternity clothes aren't so well made and I'm not anywhere near where I need to get them yet (I'm only 18 weeks or so and although I have a bump, it hasn't stopped me from wearing regular clothes). I just bought a few pairs of pants up a couple sizes. So, I'm rockin' the size 6 skinny jeans (they fit perfectly). Work clothes are harder right now. I've still been able to wear my larger pre-preg pants. I'm waiting until the absolute last minute to go anywhere near maternity clothes. The seasonal change will also be big (it is winter-like now, and I won't be huge until summer).
  • I was a size 4 PP. I'm 5 foot even so everything is too long on me!! I just buy something that fits in the waist and bring it to get altered.

Leggings are great! I've just learned to suffer with size small maternity pants. I don't wear them yet but I'm hoping as I grow they'll be okay. I just don't want to spend a lot of money on maternity clothes. Since I'm having a summer baby I'm planning on wearing dresses a lot. Then I won't have to worry about the extra room in legs and bums of maternity pants.

  • I wore a size 2 pre-pregnancy. I bought two pairs of maternity jeans from Old Navy...one in a size XS and the other in a size 1. I went to Motherhood Maternity yesterday and experienced the same thing you have been. The smalls are ridiculously big on me. I still got 2 smalls and they look a little big, but I put a tank underneath and went with it. I was actually really comfortable today.

As of now I have 2 maternity shirts and 2 pairs of jeans. I'm pretty sure that'll be all that I buy from here on out. I told DH that I'll probably just shop in the stores I normally would shop in and get size M/L. I'll probably get a lot of dresses to wear this spring/summer also. I really don't like how expensive maternity clothing is.

  • I second all of the high end stores. I did find one pair made by Paris Blues (who knew they made maternity) at Burlington. They fit awesome and were only like $13!

  • I'm 5ft and usually between 0-2 and the only clothes that i have found to fit are from the gap (of course the jeans have been hemmed!). Motherhood and Pea in the Pod were too big on me.

  • I got my jeans at motherhood, & they are sevens(that is the name brand).  They also were about $250 bucks though.  I have lived in them & would say it has been worth it too me :)  I have found really simple shirts that fit me from Target!!  I was a size 0 pre-pregger.
  • I am normally a 0 or a 2, and I found khaki and black pants from gap and loft. I am still looking for denim, but i'm on a strict budget now that I've quit my job...I really want to try the citizens, sevens, or paige jeans, but by the time I save enough to buy those, it will be pointless! For now, I have a pair of my mom's 29 paige jeans, with a beband, and they hurt sitting down! I may need to get a larger beband, maybe thats the problem! There is no way I can wear my pre-preg pants (26-27's) though. I have found basic shirts from Gap, Loft and Old Navy, along with a few cute ones here and there from M.M. I also went to department stores and bought normal dresses that I'll be able to wear for awhile, now and post pregnancy.
  • I'm a size 4, 5'7" pre-preg. I haven't even bothered trying pants on. The girl in Motherhood when I bought my belly band said "with those skinny legs you'll never find jeans." So I'm just sticking to my belly band and dresses. So far so good. By spring/summer I'm just sticking to dresses (I have to dress business casual for work).  I have a rule to never spend more than $25 on regular jeans, so no way in heck am I spending any more for a pair I'll wear for 3months.

  • I was a size 0 pre-pregnancy.  All of the size "small" pregnancy clothes were very large on me until week 30 or so.  I bought a "bella band" from target - it was about $15.00.  Using the bellaband, you can wear your old pre-maternity pants, but keep them unbuttoned / unzipped.  You pull the bellaband over your pants and it holds them up...it looks like you have a tank-top under your regular shirt.  In fact, even though I can now wear some size small maternity pants, I still wear my bellaband some.  I find that many of my maternity pants fall down when I walk.

  • I was a size 0 pre pregnancy but I somehow fill out very fast during pregnancy and well usually have no problem with extra small and small. That said, I usually shop A Pea in the Pod.
  • I am a size 0 or 2 pre-pregnancy and I, too am having a difficult time finding clothes that fit.  I am still wearing normal pants with my bella band.  Shirts are still fitting me but I don't know how much longer that will last.  Maternity clothes seem incredibly enormous to me, even the the XS and S.  Oy.
  • H&M has cheap, cute, and often much smaller sized options, including for work.  Only some of their stores carry maternity, though, and it isn't available online.
  • I got size 2 maternity jeans from Gap. I love them :)

  • i'm 5 10 and pre pregnancy size 2 or 4. They dont make little maternity clothes in long! I'm living in the bella band and found that anything empire waist works great for shirts. I also get pants and call them capris- come on spring i need you to get here fast. shorts will be way easier. i roll the tops of maternity pants too, that works for now until i get bigger i hope

  • I'm a little late posting, but I wanted to add something to the topic.  Don't underestimate how much your body is going to change!!  I wore a size 2 jeans, 107 lbs and I'm 5'4" pre-preg.  I had the same problem finding pants that fit.  I cried b/c I couldn't find jeans that fit!  Well, now at 26 weeks...I am outgrowing some of those size Small maternity clothes!!!  I've gained 20 lbs and my bump is low.  My thighs have filled out a bit (not happy about this part) and I actually fill out the maternity jeans that were all big and baggy just a few weeks ago.  It is likely that you will grow into them eventually.  I bought a pair at of stretchy jeans at Motherhood and they actually fit really nice now (for non-designer jeans).  Just make it through the next few weeks however you have to and you may be suprised how differently some of the maternity clothes may fit.

For tops, I had a LOT of luck at Ross.  Super cute tops that don't look maternity AT ALL and all for under $10.

  • Have you thought of just buying a size that fits best and then having things tailored? I had to have a couple pair of jeans and work pants tailored and now their great. Also, I've found XS shirts at Old Navy and GAP are still small enough up top that they don't look frumpy. There's just not a great selection so I end up wearing the same things over and over with different jewelry or scarves.
