Baby Names

Amalie

I just saw this on someone's FB page.  I think its pretty.  I also think its the name of a port in the Virgin Islands, maybe?

Opinions?

  • I like it! It sounds French. Pretty sure it is French actually. And most places are named after people first, so if there is an island named that, then most likely it was named after the person that found it.

  • My problem with it is that Emily is a very popular name, so when you have a name so close to a popular name people who may not know the port exists or the French origin automatically think - here we go someone likes Emily but tried to be creative.

Not saying that is your intention, just that the names are very close to each other.

  • Although I'm a lover of all forms/interpretations of Emily (Emelie, Emilie, Emma, Emmeline)... I have to say that this is one I just can't get on board with.  If you live in France, that's different.  But for some reason I just can't get myself to like it without a hearing French accent saying it.  I know that probably doesn't make any sense, but there it is.

    You're thinking of Am?lie.

Amalie is the German variant of the name Amalia.

FYI: Am?lie is the French form of Amelia.
