Just curious.

Anyone have opinions or experience?

Re: Kid "leashes" yay or nay?

  • I used to judge...I thought they were horrible! However, now that we have a LO I think different.

I doubt I would ever use one, but if you have a wild child and it is the only way to keep them safe....then it shouldn't matter to anyone else!

There is a mom on another board with twin toddlers....one always runs (fast too)...she would really be risking her little life if she ever "got away"!

  • I also am guilty of judging in the past. I completely get it now.

Charlie is not a huge fan of the stroller, hasn't been since he was 12months old. He wants to walk everywhere! We thought about buying one because he would take off running in crowded places. We got by without and he's pretty much ok now, but I think they def. have benefits!

  • I judge, but realize it's probably one of those things I'll bite my tongue on.

  • Personally I would not use one.  But Rosie won't really stay in her stroller anymore, so there have been times where I can totally understand why people get them.
  • I would never use one, but I don't care if other people do. I personally think leashes are for dogs ;)
  • I always told myself I'd never use one, but as Ian gets older and fights to be more independent, I can where it could be helpful. I don't think I'd ever get to buying one, but I can see where I'd be tempted.
  • I give a big H3LL YES!!!

There's one at BRU that links wrists. I actually don't understand why parents wouldn't use one. I don't care how it makes me look...it takes a milisecond for someone to grab your kid. No matter how "good" of a parent you are in public.

    I plan on getting two! : )

  • Thanks for all the insight ladies! I'm just like most of you- always judged but now considering. Justin is a little ball of energy and I'm nervous that he will just take off if he gets the chance on vacation. I'm considering the wrist one to wear when we're in other countries just for a piece of mind. We're going on several excursions. I plan on wearing him in Skroop's Ergo most of the time anyways. There is a backpack one that looks like Mickey but I haven't decided if I need the full on harness yet.

  • I think they are great and even put the back pack one on my registry.  No one got it for us, and now I realize they were probably judging us too.  Oh well.

In fact, my mom used the wrist leash on us as kids.  I actually remember liking that she wasn't holding our hands/arms.  It was more comfortable, and now looking back, probably much safer too with her having both me and my sister running around.  Do you remember how it used to hurt having your arm pulled up and your mom and dad holding onto you arm to keep you near them?  And I bet it wasn't comfortable for them either kinda bending down and walking that way.

Exactly. I don't have children but I have never ever been against them. Keeping a child safe is what is most important and also giving them freedom  but within limits. When a parent is holding a child close to them all the time...they do not learn freedom or limits. It's a way to still keep them safe but let them explore.

Can you imagine having a baby and a toddler in public and your sitting on a bench or table in a mall feeding baby and toddler sees something and runs off. That has to be horribly hard to get to them without leaving baby behind. Even good kids can tear off and it does only take looking over your shoulder for someone to snatch your child. I worked in that industry for years and have horror stories to last me a life time.

If I had 2 under 2 I would def. have one!

Charlie required 110% attention if he was down & walking @ E's age (actually up until a few months ago) There is no way I would have been able to keep him right next to me & focus on a newborn as well. Well, unless we just became hermits & never went anywhere, but I think that's worse parenting than using a leash.

  • I say "nay" because it's natural for kids to be curious and run here and there.  But that's just my person opinion.  They are definitely hard to keep up with!
