Which double stroller if you have a 3 year old and newborn...

I am trying to find one that will work well for my 3 year old and newborn if say we go to mall, or fair, and such.  My son still would probably wonder off if not tied down in certain places.  I can't be running after one with the other in a stroller.  Which one do you have...

my son weighs 32 pounds right now and about 38 inches tall.  I have a Graco Safe seat for infant.

  • We got this one- haven't used it yet (baby due soon- same age difference between kids as you). Got great reviews, easy to put together-- not as easy to fold up.

  • We did the Sit n Stand (also have the SafeSeat). It worked out perfectly. We got so much use out of the Sit n Stand so far.

  • I have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  DS1 just turned 3 and my littlest is 6 mos.  DS used to HATE riding in the stroller, but he loves the sit and stand.  He usually sits and ironically, I do not have to strap him in with this - he does great!  But it does have a 3 point harness if you do want to strap him in.  DS2 is still in the infant seat (not for too much longer) and it is a bit crowded for the platform seat, but DS has never complained about it.

He is 40" and 38 lbs.  I def recommend this stroller.  It is easy for me to get in and out, simple to open and steers like a dream.

  • I have the phil and Ted double, the mountain buggy double, and a chariot double.  I would get the baby jogger city classic right now which has the highest height accomidation.  It can be had for $400, or if you want to have a bassinet, I would get the mountain buggy, for $500 (I saw this yesterday).

Both those are 29" and 29.5" inches, so they fit through a regular door, unlike the bob.

If you only plan to go to the mall and are seldom out alone for more than a couple of hours, get a sit and stand, joovy has a couple of good ones.

  • How much do you want to spend?  I love my double BOB.  It's expensive, but totally worth it to me.  It pushes great, folds up fairly small for a double and isn't any heavier than the other ones on the market.  You can get an infant seat adapter for it so the seat can snap in.

  • just at FYI,   the bob double DOES in fact fit through standard doorways.  I've never had an issue and I use it every day.

If you're not wanting something for all-terrain use, I would definitely get a sit and stand.  We have the bob double and a phil and teds (which I haven't used since july.)  The p&t is a pain in the butt, but I can see it's benefits if you live in the city.

I see a sit and stand in our future, for sure.

  • I have a Bumbleride Indie Twin. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My three year old loves to sit next to her sister, so a side by side is nice for us. It fits through standard doorways. Pushes like a dream. I highly recommend it.

  • I LOVE our BOB duallie, and have never met a door that it didn't fit through. We do a lot of long walks and jogging though, so it was worth it.

  • I sold my P&T and use my Easy Walker Sky Duo almost always unless I'm in the mall or somewhere where the aisles are narrow.  In that case, I used a Sit & Stand (a lot) with a Graco seat.  I recommend both/either.

  • We have the BOB Duallie and LOVE it.  I have no problems fitting it through a regular doorway.  My friend has one from InStep.  She likes it for occasional use, but wouldn't recommend it for everyday use.  But it is very reasonable compared to other doubles.

  • I have the Joovy Ultralight Caboose, and it's just okay for me.  I wish I would've got the BOB.
  • We started out with a Joovy Caboose Ultralight, and I'll be perfectly honest in saying that I really didn't love it for DS.  It does push well on very flat, smooth surfaces, and it has a nice compact fold.

Things I didn't like about it: the front seat needs to be fully reclined in order to safely/properly accommodate an infant seat (which meant DS was hunched over or cramped when actually trying to sit on the rear seat); like any front-to-back stroller, it's long and makes it trickier to navigate on uneven and hilly surfaces (e.g., the zoo, park); finally, the break for the rear wheels is within inches of where DS's feet rest when sitting in the rear seat - so if you have a squirly little guy like I do, he was constantly pressing down on the break, causing it to jolt to a stop w/o warning.  Charming.  Oh, and the sunshade didn't work well trying to cover both children completely (DS kept pulling it over him, exposing the infant!)

After a lot of research, we ended up buying a BOB revolution duallie and I absolutely ADORE the thing!!!  It is a dream to use, and as pp said, it does fit through standard doors (I admit, I found one door and one single entrance gate at Disney it didn't fit through, but out of the hundreds of doors we've taken it through, I can live with that).  I love how easily it turns/handles even on the most uneven terrain.  The sunshades are independent (nice when you have a busy older child who plays with them!), and there's a ton of storage.

If I were only buying ONE stroller, I'd buy the BOB duallie - frankly, DS#1 is now able to walk a lot more than he was even 6-months ago (and he was the must-pin-him-down type), so the need for a stroller in general is decreasing as DS#1 gets closer to 4 y/o.  :)

  • I had a Joovy Caboose Sit & Stand (for Mall, car).  At home (I walk to the zoo, museums, school, shops, etc) I have a Double Mountain Buggy w/ a carrycot for the baby when she was a newborn.

  • We have the Graco Duo Glider for our everyday use and the Baby Trend Double Jogger for when we run.  Love them both!
  • We used the Graco Duo Glider until my oldest was almost 5. It has plenty of room for him and he could get into the front seat really easily if he got tired of walking on an outing. It's a little bulky but I think you'll get that with any double stroller.

  • joovy sit and stand didn't work for us. I sold it and bought a graco quatro duo stroller. they can both nap in it, huge basket on the bottom, cup holders for each and me.  it's perfect. it is a little heavy but I deal with it.
