What Happened to My Good Eater??

I just need to vent.

Robinson has never been a great drinker, but he's always been a pretty good eater and willing to try anything.

But with this bronchitis and teething the last 2 weeeks have been miserable!  He won't eat anything but chicken fingers and blueberries...WTH?!  I know it's mostly because he doesn't feel well, but he is pretty much over this illness and today at lunch...not one single bite.  I tried some veggies, grilled chicken and potatoes.  I even tried to feed him some to coax him into eating and he'd spit it back out.

Mealtimes have become so stressful and frustrating.  I hate it.  Please tell me this is just a phase and I'll have my good eater back?!?!

It is just a phase.  Caroline goes through these as well.  It's really hard to see them not want to eat, isn't it?  The worst was when she was sick last week and even though she was hungry, she just flat out refused to eat because she knew that she'd end up either vomiting or having diahrrea.

At least your kids WAS a good eater.  This is my every day life with Allie!  She has NEVER been a good eater!

When you figure it out...let me know.

I do have a question though.  I am learning that she kind of likes it when I ignore her...she eats better!  If I sit there with her, she plays and won't eat...but if I wash dishes, or do other things, she will eat.  I need ideas of things to feed her.  I always do the same stuff, and I need more options.  She won't eat anything with red sauce (spaghetti, etc.) and really won't eat meat except for hot dogs.  Any suggestions?

    Allie ~ 01/26/09 ~ 7 lbs, 9 oz ~ 20.75 in. & Amelia ~ 03/16/11 ~ 8 lbs, 1 oz ~ 21 in.

I've heard this from a lot of moms that have fussy eaters.  That sometimes when they ignore them the child eats a lot better.  Also, I've heard a few moms say things like when babies are sick they don't want to eat.  I don't have any experience with this yet, but hopefully Robinson's appetite will come back.

Rory (please tell me I spelled your name correctly!)--  I'm so sorry.  I don't know how you do this day in and out.  I've been so stressed out.  It's so hard to understand why he's not hungry- especially when I eat everything in sight!

I do agree that when I ignore him, he does at least take bites,so maybe I'll stop trying to focus on him eating and once it's not a big deal, he'll start eating again.

    ugh...this parenting stuff is hard!

    Yes, you spelled it right!

It is very hard!  I have driven myself nuts over her eating.  When she was younger I made a chart and would write in how many ounces she drank every day and then total it at night.  It would just stress me out so much that she wasn't eating enough!  Thank goodness we ended up at a GI specialist who made me feel so much better about her issues.  I hate meal time.  I absolutely dread the battle.  I literally beg her to eat sometimes...and it doesn't help.  I am so jealous of people who come on here and the national board and talk about how much their LO ate.  It makes it worse that her weight percentiles continue to drop...I just worry so much about her!

I agree....parenting is the hardest job in the world!

    This!

I too have stressed over this so much.  My Husband gets so upset with me b/c he says that I get to bent out of shape over Easton eating.  I asked my ped and she said that most kids only really eat one "good" meal every 3 days and that as long as I give him a multi vitamin he should be fine.  I can honestly say that my little guy hasn't had any veggies in at least 2 months.  He use to eat the graduates lil side of sweet potatoes and now he won't even try it.  He does love fruit so at least we have that on our side!

This.  One of the things I can always count on is that Robinson will eat his weight in blueberries and strawberries.

Even my kid goes thru phases where she doesn't eat a lot. And Avery is like a champion eater. I agree with pp. If you focus and stress over him eating it will probably make it worse for the moment. Give it a few days and try again. Poor little Robinson. I'm sure he'll be trying to catch up to averys intake soon. Hope little man feels better soon!
