HSV Girls- A Nurturing Moment

Did any of you take breastfeeding classes with them? How was it? How much did it cost?

I had signed up for a breastfeeding class and ending up having to cancel it because I was sick. And I couldn't make the other dates Do you think it is neccessary to do a breastfeeding class?? Any books I need to get? Any info I might need?

Re: HSV Girls- A Nurturing Moment

  • Anyone can answer this post if you have any insight on breastfeeding. Thanks in advance!
  • IMO, it was necessary for me.....I was overwhelmed with the whole BF'ing thing, prior to having Caroline.  I was really scared about it, but ended up doing great.....and am still nursing.

You might check into taking them either at H'ville Hospital or Crestwood....depending on when you deliver, they both have classes.  The class I took was a HUGE help to me.  I also have the book, "So That's What They're For?".....also very informative and an easy read....not at all textbook like.

  • I didn't take a class at ANM, but I did take the BF class at Hsv Hospital and loved it.  I would urge all new moms planning to BF to take a class.  Jim went with me and I was sooo glad he did.  There is alot of info in there for dad's too...how to help/support, etc.
  • I didn't need a class, but I had my mom to help me. At the hospital they sent in a lactation consultant to answer any questions or concerns I had. I liked that. It was probably easier too since I had Jake to help me learn as well.

I totally agree with Monica.  DH came to my class as well....and it really helped him to be more supportive of my desire to BF.

  • I wish I'd taken a BF class. We've had a rough time with it and are having to supplement formula/pumped milk. Taking the class might not have changed that, but I probably would have felt better being more informed.
  • i haven't take class at ANM, but i most like either will or go in for help. glenni the owner is a lactation consultant, and from what i hear is very good and very experience. i think she exclusively bf'd all of her kids, and even did extended bf'ing. also, i know there is a meetup group for new moms that are planning to bf (which i joined but have not made it to any meetings yet since they conflict with my schedule): https://mommymilk.meetup.com/230/

it's held at ANM and hosted by glenni.

    Yes same thing with me

  • I'm planning on taking a class where I deliver and my friend recommended the book all the ladies are posting about. This post made me think of a dream I had last night. My baby was a week old and I had forgotten to start breastfeeding him and I was freaking out, it was a very stressful dream :-)

  • I took my BFing class thru HH - I think we got a discounted price if we took more than one class...

but... glenni is really nice too.

HIGHLY recommend the BFing classs and take your husband...

  • I wish I had taken one now. I am bfing fine, and Sam is doing great, but I wish that I had realized what hard work it really was and that I could have had a more enjoyable first couple of weeks with it. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!
  • Something I just thought of. I might consider taking the class at hh or crestwood over taking one with glenni. She is very. Nice and knowledgeable however a few times when I have been there, paying her for advice, she can get distracted with store business. And I think taking a class before hand really helps a lot to get a good idea if what you nneed to look for as far as a good latch because that is IMO the most important part of a successful breastfeeding experience.
