Okay here's the deal. I've had the same OBGYN for over three years. She has her own practice which I was in love with because I knew when I did get pregnant that she would be the only doctor I'd see and would also delivery my baby. She spends time with me, never makes me feel silly and will answer questions no matter how long it takes.
Fast forward to present day: She's no longer delivering babies/seeing OB patients. Her last deliveries will be those expected to deliver in March. Her office gave me recommendations so I chose a new OB.
My first appt was today at 9 weeks. I spent an hour with the OB nurse getting all the basics covered and forms filled out. I will have to rotate seeing all the OB's. After waiting in the room for a good 20 minutes the OB finally came in. She rushed around, asked 3-4 questions that were already asked by the OB nurse and noted in my chart and then said, "See you at 12 weeks." I asked about excercise, per the OB nurse's recommendation, and all she said was, "I'll get you a pamphlet."
I'm not getting a good vibe from this practice. Just seems very busy and rushed and not helpful with providing info. I had to ask twice where the lab was and then asked if I had to do anything to prepare for my 12 week ultrasound. Also when I got in there this morning the OB nurse asked for my pregnancy confirmation. When I scheduled the appt they said I didn't need to do anything - just show up. The nurse was good and said they'd just run a pregnancy test with my urine sample.
At what point to do you say you've given it a try and look for a new practice? I'm planning to keep my 12 week appt with hopes that I'll feel better about it.
Sorry this is so long.
Re: doctor questions...
I'd see one more dr there, and if it still gives you a bad vibe, move on.
You might also want to contact your old ob's office, tell them the situation, and ask if there's anyone else they'd recommend.
I got a bad vibe from a phone call, so I switched practices before my first appt.
I'd try a new doc for your next appt. Or even a midwife. A midwife will probably take more time to talk with you and answer questions.

My OB office is similar. There are 6 OB's that you have to see at least once, then you get to pick who you want to see. However whoever happens to be at the hospital at the time is the one that delivers.
There is one out of the 6 that I don't like. She was like yours, just seemed rushed and was obligated to ask if I had any concerns but then just didn't care to actually listen when it turned out that I did.
That being said, I am sticking with my OB office because I like the rest of the doctors and if I do end up with her as a delivery doctor I really don't think it will matter. I was in labor for 15 hours with DD and when it finally came time to deliver my OB was hung up in another delivery and the OB that delivered I had never even met before. Honestly it didn't matter to me. All that guy did was catch the baby and then sew me up afterward. It was the nurses that took such awesome care of me over the course of that long day and the days to follow.
Thanks! This helps. I'm hoping and so is DH, that it's just this OB. I know that my next appt is with the same OB but then after that I'll start meeting with the other OBs.
How late is too late to switch to a different practice? My next appt is at 12 weeks and then I'll have another at 16 weeks. So I won't meet a new doctor until 16 weeks.
