Flying with the car seat - question

Do they charge you to check it? I would think it is NOT luggage so they shouldn't.

Re: Flying with the car seat - question

  • Make sure you gate-check it--that way it's not as likely to be lost or beat up. This also gives you a way to use the seat on the plane if there is room.
  • gate check it definitely and no they are NOT supposed to charge you for the carseat or the stroller.  keep in mind if you do use it on on the plane the child wont be able to use the tray and also it gives them to ability to kick the seat in front of them.

  • When you check your bags ask them for a plastic bag to cover your car seat at the gate.  They give you a really thick bag to put it in.

  • Yes, but it's still far safer to have them in the carseat if possible.
  • Car seats are exempted items, so it is illegal for airlies to charge you to check them. We fly frequently with DS and always check the seat with the regular luggage and it is fine. We gate check the stroller.
